Alejandro what beauty dish (brand) did you use for your shot with the Elinchrom's. It is an outstanding shot.

Here's a pretty basic setup: 1 Alien Bee with softbox to camera right, white foam core reflector on the left to bounce and fill.

I love the simplistic look of 1 light setups.

Sure,

I love single light portraits. Sorry I have no direct links for these.

Indeed, these are great inspirations! Being quite unfinancially stable at the moment, I'm thinking about getting just one strobe in the next few months to experiment with. Hopefully I can produce similar results =)

What background did you use for this photo and where can I obtain it and how much does cost. Is this a muslins or seamless paper or something else?
Beautiful picture...love the background. Thank you.

Thanks Mufutau. The background is grey seamless. Model is about 6 feet in front of it. The dish is about 3 feet above her head and to the left.

Here is another shot with a similar setup, but I pulled the dish farther back to make the shadows a bit harder.

I got inspired and set up some clamshell lighting with a single AB800 on a boom through a 5' Amvona.com Octalume and a 42" reflector with the gold part on it. I think I white balanced out the gold cuz I'm just not seeing anything 'warm' from it.

Had them tell me what colors the flowers were:

This little guys first shoot

The wife and I going out for the first time in six months to celebrate our anniversary. This one was on timer and I just ran over and stood there hoping to get in picture. Almost got the top of my head heh.

This was shot with a one-light setup. Nikon SB-24 bounced into a reflector to camera left, another reflector to camera right. SB-24 was about 3-feet away and above. Fill reflector was about 1.5 feet away.

Cheers!

Jim

PS: Hope this works ...

Wow, I love this thread. As someone who is about to jump into studio lighting, this makes it seem a LOT less daunting. I think I can handle one light to start with. Thanks! Keep 'em coming.

I am shocked at the product many of you are getting with just one light! YOU ROCK!! I thought shots like these could only be done with multi lights and reflectors, but you all have opened my eyes to the possibilities. My 1K budget on studio lights now seem more in reach than before. I was thinking I needed 3 lights and a reflector. Now I understand what many of you mean when you say to "use your imagination and be creative". Thank you all and keep the post roll'n.

Having just received my first AB800 yesterday, I thought I'd bump this thread back up to the top to get some more ideas. Any more contributors?

Here's one using something homemade. My Bowens and Portaflash stayed in their bags for this one:

It's a single circular fluorescent bulb with the ballast and starter gutted and put in a box with the 4 way connector cable extended.
