I’m planning on entering my first photography competition shortly, and I’ve got a month to decide what photos I want to enter. I’m having a trouble because I’ve looked at all of these so often I can’t decide what I like the most (or what is most likely to be successful, to be more specific)
Can you offer a little feedback on which of the following you guys think are more exhibition/competition worthy? I don’t really know what judges look for.
They would all be entered into the landscape category (except the flamingo, which would go into a general category)
I like #2 for the general. As far as for landscape, I like #9 and also #8. I would really love #3 or #7 if there were some clouds or some more snow or something else -- there is just a little something missing. The other mountain shots are great as well, but #9 is the one I like best. I also just like the mood in #8 with the sun and the backlit boats. Tough call.
#5 and #8. #5 because it is different from anything I've seen so far with the spectacular clouds; #8 might have a bit of "seen that before" but when looking at it I just want to go there. I like #2 as well: the black background makes the flamingo stand out nicely & because it's head is invisible it remains nicely abstract.
Hi Jame,
C'mon .... give us a break !
How can we choose from this marvellous selection
Here goes .......... 5, 3, 6, 4,& 7 in that order.
Good luck
David
Dave's right, tough choice in a great batch of photos. Keep in mind, I'm a poor critic, and have only limited (though somewhat lucky) experience in local shows:
My favorite photos are 5, 6 and 9 (in that order) for the great colors and dramatic scenes. I don't know what area you're competing in, but if it is one in which you can expect other mountain scenes, your competition would be ones with similar colors but a tad sharper.
#1 has my favor, but I may be influenced by the fact I am longing to shoot a scene like that.
And I'll tell you, the one I find most intriguing is #4. Though it lacks the striking color that some will look for, I really like the sharpness of the rocks that draws the eye right to it, until you realize this tidal-wave-like formation is coming at you from behind, and you almost want to duck out of the way. It's nice to see a picture with that kind of impact.
Great batch of pictures, I think you'd do well with any of the selections suggested in the thread.
5 then 6 for me as well. One suggestion, perhaps view the pics without the frames? This might give you a better sense of which pics really stand out on their own? Not sure, but it might help. After all, I assume you wont be printing the frame as well?
