Sony today announced a new 4 colour filter CCD. By adding a so called Emerald filter, Sony adds to the conventional R-G-B channels some extra colour information. This helps to make more natural colours in a digital file. The sensor responds more closely to the way the human eye captures colour information.You can read more about it on the Sony news net.
As Nikon and Canon are both companies that make a lot of use of Sony CCD's in their camera's, it will be interesting to follow this development and look closely if one of these manufacturers will build this technology in their camera's besides Sony themselves of course.
