Jack I can't wait until Nikon releases a FF so that I can take better pictures than you.
In the meanwhile I will just have to content myself to try to get to your level the old fashioned way. Btw ... how is that done
Ahhh. That explains it .... it was not shot with a fake wide!
I used to have a bush like that at the side of my house. It would always bloom after one of those early warm spells that we get in january here in North Carolina. Beautiful blooms. Beautiful shots!

#2 is especially fine, fresh lively flower among the more sober leaves, very evocative. BTW hope your show went(is) going well!!
Thanks man, I appreciate your insightful comments. And thanks, we just got back in from the reception, and we had a great turnout considering the t-storms and two other competing events. But, all in all, a great evening.
Excellant shots! What a cool comparison. I do have to admit that #2 is something special. We have all either taken or seen similar shots to your #1, but the composition in #2 is special and unique!
By the way, you didn't fly these flowers up to Seattle to get the rain on them did you?
Jim
Thanks Jim, appreciate it much! No man, we're getting our share of rain the last couple of days 4 inches in the last two days, but it's badly needed and welcome

Interesting shots, Jack. I find those flowers are tough to shoot, for some reason, perhaps the color. dunno, but they look pretty good in your shots, probably because of the lighting. I like the 2nd one a great deal, nice comp and color.
Thanks Kerry. You know, I've always had trouble with flowers, they seem so hard to capture accurate color. The rain clouds were very heavy this morning, and the light was very subdued, so the rest just fell into place.

That's right, it was shot with a fake macro My 105mm is a 158 with unlimited DoF
Very nice close-up images. I too have been shooting with my Sigma 105 recently (indoors, because the weather has been un-Godly aweful, for the most part). Great lens!
I like both of the images, but also agree that the second one is something special, composition wise! Thanks for posting these great images. Glad your show started out well!

Thanks Gerald Appreciate you comments. The Sigma 105 has been with me a long time....it does the job well.

Thanks Glenn, appreciate it! BTW bro, we're getting some of your rain. Two inches last night, and another two this evening.
Uh huhhh. Well, someone woke up the winter gods. We are supposed to get up to 45cm of snow today!! That translates to eighteen inches of snow! If that were rain, it would amount to somewhere close go about 120 inches of rain (the snow is a bit wetter than usual thus not a true 10:1 ratio) between now and Sunday evening. LOVE IT!!! (ready Al?? )
