the1sen Offline Image Upload: Off p.1 #1 · Dispelling the .NEF rumors And, welcome back to our program Ladies and Gentlemen. In our last discussion, we were able to alleviate a lot of the lies and garbage rumors surrounding Nikon's wildly popular and no doubt INSANE D200 that have caused us to actually ORDER the machine and have dreams of taking photos of the cows coming home, at home, and leaving home the next day! On Today's program, we're hoping to destroy yet another nasty "rumor" found on the sometimes helpful Internet... So, the question for the day folks, IS... Can one edit an .NEF file in Adobe's Photoshop CS2 or is this an impossibility reserved only for Nikon's proprietary software? Film at 11! and thanks for your help! Kerry Pierce Offline Image Upload: Off p.1 #6 · Dispelling the .NEF rumors D200 RAW files are pretty cool, if you have the storage and horsepower to tame them. I use the compressed NEF option, so they're not as bad on storage. I have been using the Bibble Pro plugin and the recently released ACR 3.3 for CS2, both of which work just fine in CS2 for D200 files. If you own CS2, I'd suggest downloading ACR 3.3, it might be all you would ever want/need. Alternatively, you can use nikon's plugin for CS2, which works "okay", but compared to the 2 I mentioned, it's rather slow and certainly doesn't have the capability that they have. I hate the Auto thingy it does to my images, kinda defeats the purpose of shooting raw in the first place and I find that the colour is much more priettier in Nikon Capture. Cheers, Jasin. Time consuming, but I get to improve the image (including change white balance and temperature, etc.) prior to opening the file in CS2. Sounds like you are the source of the "nasty 'rumor'". ACR 3.3 beta has been available publicly for a long time; and, more recently, the official version was released. Why are you stirring the pot? This will be my last post on the Internet. While I do agree that I am not an expert with working with .NEF files, I resent Rick2's comment that I am starting a rumor or stirring any pot(s). Additionally, I want to apologize to Rick2 for my "strange post," as it was not my intention to start a rumor or harm Nikon in any way since I am going to be receiving mine soon. I am a competent, qualified, expert user of Photoshop. I have been using film cameras for years. I am about to receive my D200 soon - my 1st venture into a serious Digital SLR of my own, and as I was reading through some Nikon Forums, I noticed some complaining about being unable to edit in Photoshop. As this web-site is famed for being FACTUAL, and has helped me in the past, I asked a question in an entertaining manner. Again, apologies to all for my "strange post." Especially to those who I have offended in such a vehement manner, like Rick2, and given the impression that i am some anti-Nikon-bastard. I think I will leave the Internet Forums to all knowing people like Rick2 and stick to in-person dealings at my local camera shop when i have questions.
