p.1 #1 · Nikon SU-800?

Has anyone seen one in use yet? Very curious about it. Trying to decide if it's worth getting when it becomes available. It does have 3 times the range of an SB-800 as a trigger, and it is solely infrared unlike the the SB-800. But the SB-800 can swivel, and I don't think the SU-800 does. Anyone have feedback on this product yet? Thanks!

I have it, it works pretty similar to the SB-800. It's a little smaller. Range is about the same. If your okay with the SB-800 it's almost better to just get another SB-800 for a controller, it really isn't too much more money.

I'd love to hear more input too, I have 2 SB-800s and i'm looking for a trigger on camera, either an SB-800 or an SU-800. The SB-800 would give me more lighting options I think, but that the SU-800 has significantly more range is news to me and tilts the balance back again.

Alan, over on Nikonians a couple of guys did some tests with both, and didn't find that the SU-800 had more range. It runs off one of those tiny AA like batteries. The only advantage I have found is that it's much smaller, and lighter on the camera.

p.1 #5 · Nikon SU-800?

I got an SU-800 as part of the R1C1 kit. It has one disadvantage compared to a SB-800 as a trigger: if you are triggering studio flash, you can set the SB-800 to manual 1/128 power and the camera will synch with the studio flash units. However, even setting the SU-800 to "M" mode I found that the studio flash units were not synched to the shutter.

What's nice about the SU-800 is the interface is much simpler for controlling the remote flash. You can set each of three remote groups over +/- 3 EV right from the SU-800 and it is pretty easy to do it. I find the SB-800 interface very slow in comparison.
