Mad Artist Offline Image Upload: Off p.1 #6 · more light painting with D200 This is simply amazing. It has a certain quality (feel) to it that I've not seen before. I have it on my list to try light painting, but of a totally different kind. It's for building interiors which are too large to practically light. You set the camera to a long exposure. Then, wearing dark overalls and a ski mask, you walk through the scene, painting it with a jumbo floodlight. It works! I saw examples. I've used light painting on a number of subjects, from locomotive steam engines, to river banks, to cars and flowers. I used it in a number of museum shots yesterday. I suspect that most any brand of penlights would be sufficient for the task, so long as you can "focus" the beam somewhat. You probably don't want one that has a wide, hard to control, beam of light. It's much better to use a light that isn't very bright, than to use one that is too bright. Of course, it depends upon the scene, but for the small stuff like these flowers, less is more.
