After my bruising experience at the hands of a forum member who didn't believe, well, just about anything I said in the context of my faulty, banding-prone D200 (no names, no pack drill, you know who you are ), I said I wouldn't be back. And I won't. Except this once. FYI... http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1021&message=16562375 No, Nikon Sweden isn't Nikon Corporation. But it backs up my first-hand experience with Nikon UK. And it sounds like good news for anyone with a defective camera. To those of you who still think that banding is caused by incorrect exposure / unrealistic expectations / misaligned planets / alien radio signals... yah boo sucks. As we say in this country ;-) I still have no idea why there's a minority of forum users who seem determined to discredit anyone with D200 banding problems. But there you go. Life's strange, eh? Not banding again... yeah,.. i remained open minded from the off - one should EXPECT early issues with a brand new DSLR At first i detected no banding - so thereby hoped i was a lucky one, now i occasionally see it, so if true, good news that Nikon are awake, and will fix it. That being said, it is tiring to hear a couple of people cry and stamp their feet because their new toy isn't working perfectly. It's unforunate that things end up this way but thats part of the human dynamic range I didn't bother weighing in on that thread but despite being very vocal I felt Kerry was doing a service in trying to avert potential hysteria. Within this thread a poster said he is scared to use the D200? Wonder why? When I have seen some exceptional examples of fine photography using the D200. I am not trying to minimize your plight Seb. If I have to zoom in 100% and see pixels for the banding to be evident then most likely it won't show up in prints and that is not a critical error to me. That said, It wouldn't make me happy if it was my camera andI would expect Nikon to fix but at the same time I wouldn't try to encite the masses with hysterics (not saying your post was hysterics, merely it could encite them). It did get somewhat uncomfortable in that thread and on reason I stayed out of it (the other is that most likely I won't be buying a D200 anyways) but at the same time Kerry was doing a service in trying to keep facts evident. Seb I am sorry you felt bashed. On a forum such as this sometimes we are called to answer for ourselves, particularly being new to the forum and lamenting problems at the outset. I would like to see you stay and realize the real value of this forum. You may even come to appreciate the input of those you found putting your back against the wall at the outset. Sure I may have said something dumb ... can't remember now (how convenient).... but over a period of time the positive value of this forum takes the few flare-ups and miscommunications and puts them into insignificance. People have their ways but in the end most are just trying to add to the wealth of knowledge here. That's pretty cool. Funny, because that's exactly how it came across. Your tone right from the start was confrontational and disbelieving. I recall you suggesting that respect is a two-way street. So true. What have you done to earn mine? I still fail to understand how my initial posts, which simply related the problems I'd been having with my D200 (I wasn't exactly the first) and passed a few observations on the many threads on this subject, could arouse such interest - let alone 'hysteria'. I don't feel I have anything to apologise for, but I certainly don't intend sticking around in a place where the assumption is that I'm a troll until proven otherwise, even if that assumption is only asserted by a single person.
