Okay, I have a Nikon 300mm f/4 ED-IF AF-S. I would like the extra range but I really don't want to spend $300 or more for a 1.4x TC. Has anyone tried the Sigma 1.4X with this lens ? (Sorry I'm a Nikon noob)
I tried to combine a Sigma TC with a few other lenses and without any success (you need to be careful and first check if they are mechanically compatible (rear element of the lens colliding with front element of the TC), and the functionality is not always working: AF, metering).
In other words, I wouldn't recommend it. If you don't want to spend the money on a Nikkor TC, have a look at Kenko TC's, they have less compatibility issues and are cheaper, but anyway you'll have to check the mechanical compatibility.
HeaVy, you might want to look at the Kenko or Tamron TCs. I have the Kenko and it matches up fine with this lens and gives good results. I had the nikon and sold it as I could only tell the difference on some shots.

Thanks,

Buy the "Grey Market" version of the Nikon tc - it's close to $99.00 bucks cheaper.
