Was at a wedding on wednesday and managed to knock my 50mm on to the floor, now this has happened before so I wasn't too worried but when I put it on my camera and tried to focus the focus ring moved a fraction and then stopped. Turning in manually doesn't do anything either. Anyone got any idea what the problem is and how much it would cost to get if fixed?
Well, I had someone bump into my 50/1.8II and fleeing. Didn't think it was a problem as everything worked as usual. Later I realised, that the focusing barrel was a few millimetres crooked causing shots taken at f/1.8-2.8 to be hideusly haloed. Apertures smaller, than 2.8 worked just fine.
It was a cheap lens and the Canon service center has fixed fees for these things, so I tried banging the crooked side to the wall a bit.
Works great again. Probably wouldn't do it on a 1.4 though.
This probably won't help in any way, but I thought I'd say it anyway.
Hey Moldi, i have the exact same probleme here with my 50 1/4
Altough it didn't flet or seems borken the focus ring is only moving a fraction from 3m to infinity.
I didn't try to find a solution yet. I'm intersted by any comments by the way.
