Excellent shots Les. I agree with you on that first one - the bird has such a majestic, impressive and at the same time somewhat intimidating pose in the way you have captured it - really almost all of the qualities that come to my mind when I think of bald eagles. And there you go getting it all in one shot

thanks,
Gero

Amazing work. That shot of the juvenile is exceptional, great detail on his plumage and the red bg adds to the mood.

Sorry Les, I can't bear to look at your eagle images anymore. Gives me too much of an inferiority complex.

Wonderful work! Do you ever use the 400 F5.6? I would guess the 500 is you main weapon.

Thanks much for the look and the comment. Virtually all of my eagles are
shot with the 500 and the 1.4x. For me, the 400/5.6 is the only lens I own that I wish I had not bought. I know that there are many who love it, but it just doesn't fit with my style of shooting. Most of my shooting is hand held, and often it is in poor light. Without IS, whenever I use the lens, I find that there are many shots that I miss that I wouldn't have missed with one of my IS long lenses. Even for shots of birds in flight with higher shutter speeds, I still consistently get getter results with IS. While the 400/5.6 is potentially sharper than, for example, my 100-400, I'm yet to get a shot with it that I think would have been just as good or better with the 100-400, and I know that there are many shots that I've missed with it, either because of the lack of IS or because I could have used the flexibility of the zoom.

I think your pics are stupendous, they are gorgeous. What do you do for a living? I think you should be doing wildlife photography for a living. I looked at the fawns. Great pictures! I think you get such nice pictures because the wildlife is attracted to you. That one fawn was running to you.....for protection.

I think you should publish books. Big coffee table books. Let the world see your work. I can't see how you couldn't get a publisher; your work is too good.

I would guess that Ansel Adams would want to work with you today, if you'd let him. I feel that you capture pictures of nature that he would never have imagined possible.

Thanks for sharing your work and your secrets of how you shot them. I read all the posts and garnered that one secret you've found is to protect your highlights, and at the same time use that to gain even higher shutter speed.

May the sun shine on your eagles location.

Old Zip,
I appreciate your especially kind comments. Right now I really enjoy what I'm do, and I'm hesitant to do anything that would take the fun out of it. I sell a reasonable number of prints to people who find me. That's ok because, I really don't need to be a salesman. Again, the buyers find me. I am reluctant, however, to do anything that would make it seem like work. While writing a book actually would be enjoyable for me, it is the dealing with publishers and feeling the need to have to produce and please others that I'm afraid of jumping into. That's what could take the fun out of for me.
