p.1 #1 · D50 w/24-120 VR

Hello all,

I had an opportunity to spend some time with a D50 over the weekend. A gallery of images can be seen at:

D50 W/24-120 VR

These are all handheld and processed with my normal workflow.

Thank you.

Thanks Hugh for posting these shots with the D-50. My daughter is very interested in getting a D-50 and these images you posted will finally encourage her to buy one.

Looks pretty good, Hugh. What exactly does your normal workflow consist of, if you have the time.

Hello Effie,

You are very welcome. It's a fine, relatively simple camera that is a bargain at the price. I'm sure she will be delighted.

Well, exactly could be very extensive in some cases, depending on what I expected to do with an image . For these, web use only, Levels, Neat Image, Ron Bigelow sharpening in a layer, Selective Color, size, frame, sign.

The important thing to note is that some images are more amiable to processing than others. These were easy.

Hope this helps.

Again, thanks Hugh for mentioning Ron Bigelow's sharpening technics in a layer. I went to his website at http://ronbigelow.com/articles/sharpen1.htm and learned an awful lot from him and incorporated his digital workflow into mine.

Hugh,

Are you sure these are processed in your normal workflow? Not only is the "crappy" 24-120 VR making great images, but there are no sunrise/sunsets. Maybe it is your D2x that is dialed into those morning shots.

Thanks for showing these photos. They show what a camera and lens is capable of doing with experienced hands and a keen eye, something the pixel peepers seem to overlook.

Hello Alan,

Yep, standard work-flow. Actually, I have two of the 24-120 VRs. One on my carry around camera (D1x) and one on the back up business camera. It works fine for me.
Re. the D50, it's a good, all around camera and a bargain at the price. Glad you enjoyed the gallery.

Yep Hugh, my 24-120 VR has been a great lens for me also. Sometimes I wish for a faster lens, but that day will come.

Hello Alan,

I also have the faster lenses, but they don't have the zoom range, are much heavier, and except for the 80-200, are not VR. Fine lenses, but don't fit the task as well.
