It looks like the actual mirror/shutter housing is black underneath the clear outer shell. I bet it is fully functional.

there were a couple maxxum 7000i's from the late 80's that were also clear... this is when a camera loses all functionality and just sits in a display

I had an N90s and this cam brings back the memories however, I certainly don't have $3200 to spend on a shelf queen. On a semi related note, I think it would be cool to have one of the magnisium frames / skeletons that Nikon always shows in their ads. Any idea where to get one of those?

yeah, buy a D2H/X or F5 and just strip off the rubber and paint... :P
