p.1 #1 · New Nikon Flash System

So is this new rig good only for close up product shots and macro? Would one take portraits with it? I'm just trying to get an idea of the usability of this set-up.

any thing you want.... I saw a pic of I think 7 of those SB-200 things, on the ring, to make one LARGE ring lite, looked pretty impressive, although it would be pricey to have 7 of those little lights....I think you can also use the lights for normal CLS wireless set ups...if you didn't need the power of the SB-800 or 600

Actually you can attach 8 of them to a ring. I actually thought about doing that and have instant portable ring flash for portraits on location.

Together with a SB-600 and another SB-800 I will have a very flexible location light kit. Imagine having 4 of those small things on each side for the backdrop (I recken that I can make do with 8 of them), or use 2 of those as the hair light, or have multiple flashes as fill from different angles at different locations.

But it uses CR123A, and I have not seen rechargeable ones around. I know they supposely exist, but if you have 8 of those suckers, you better have a good solution for the battery.

It is certainlly a very pricey solution (if you buy 8 of them). I might get 4 of them and give them a try. If they don't work out for me then I will return them and get myself a 17-55 f2.8.
