How many clicks? I would call a Nikon repair center. If it's grey market there is a great repair facility in the mid west I believe if anyone can help. I lost the www address when my browser crashed.
My D1X is at Nikon now having the shutter replaced and I'm told to expect a $700.00 charge. On it's return I'll sell it and make the switch to Canon. Most likely the D5.
SoCalPhoto, I estimate around 70-80K, mostly studio use, and I have contacted Nikon. The rep took me through the standard procedures (resets, and all), and told me to send it in. He wouldn't give me an estimate. Webfeatz, if the $700 charge is true, ouch!! Could put that money towards a new D70s or a new lens. I heard the $700 figure for the shutter replacement a couple of years back, and it seemed reasonable then given the value of
the D1X in 2003. Now in 2005, it doesn't seem like a good deal, but I'll probably bite the bullet.
Mine literally shredded itself. So, maybe yours is just an electronics issue. However, another pro buddy of mine here in Dallas once told me that you can't send the D1X to Nikon without getting at least a $600.00 charge.
In the short span of 15 years I've watched every photojournalist I know make the switch to Canon. I'm talking about wire service staff, The AP, and entire newspaper staffs, deserting Nikon in favor of Canon.
I've used Nikons exclusively since 1975 and I've got a ton of their glass, Fs, F1s, F2s, F3s and so on, but I now operate my own business and I can't justify the price or the reliability of the Nikon now.
Webfeatz, thanks I'm going to need it! I've seen countless pros make the switch as
well. Nikon has always been very old fashioned as acompany, and it seems, still is.
They used to pride themselves on quality products, and they still provide that, but it's
not the same. I'm not complaining about my shutter failure because things happen, but peeling rubber, dying meters, etc, it's a little too much!
Sometimes I feel that in the Nikon world, and they still think they're number one, blind to the fact that Canon has been sitting on their throne since the original EOS 1 film camera came out. I'm not a brand loyalist, I love Nikon for their glass, but after I get my D1X fixed, I may be looking your route!
