The zoom on my 18-70 kit lens from the D70 kit is sticking when it zooms. So i have to send it in for service almost two weeks before the one year warranty is up, I've never sent anything in for service. Does anyone have any experience with Nikon service, how quick is it, is it even good?

They are adequate to the task and fairly speedy. Just don;t expect email updates.

You'll be OK.

Don't know about the states, but they are excellent in Canada. I tried to clean my sensor using those CO2 air blaster, but end up having either moist/gunk all over. I sent it in expected them to charge me, but they did it free of charge under warranty.

Henrys (Canadian photo/video store) was great, too. Even though I didn't buy my D70 from them, they sent it in for me for free. I guess it helps knowing the right person working there. I think it will help if a shop sends it in instead of you sending it in yourself.

My D70 was sent in on Sept. 19th via my local camera shop and I'm still awaiting word on the status.

I had the 35-70 AF-D looked at here in Australia, and they had it for two weeks 'cos of a big back-log but when they did contact me, i had to send the body in also but did this within the day, which i was pretty happy with to minimise time without my camera body!!!
It all depends on how much work they have at a given time!!! good luck though

I concur with sitnspin on the updates. My D2H went in for the meter problem and I had to keep calling to find the status. The website was ok for info. I must give high marks, though to the service overall. They fixed it in 7 days beating their estimate and they shipped it back next-day air. I love my D2H.

Right now I can't say anything too positive about them, even the NPS side, though they are reasonably fast.

I've dealt with the West Coast Nikon service on several occassions:
1) My F5 went in the river (body and lens serviced)
2) D1X buffer upgrade
3) 70-200 VR lens AF stopped functioning
I'm local, so I've been dropping off and picking up. The turn-around-time estimates were 7-10 working days each time. You can check the web site for work order progress status. They also called me to let me know when it was done since it was a pick up work order. They've been good on their TAT, and I've been happy with the service each time.
Hope this helps.

Follow the instructions on their web site http://www.nikonusa.com/template.php?goingto=inc_service They have a fixed price for working on some lenses. I recently had the meter fixed on my D2H, and I was pleased with Nikon Service.

Got my D70 back. they shipped it directly to my house instead of the camera shop.

Now I just have to figure out what happened to my D70 outfit box.
