The cost to repair an AF-S 80-200 2.8

Don't drop your lenses guys! They are fragile babies.

Now to wait the month or so until I actually get the lens back!

What does $12.50 of shipping buy me? Like 14 day horse? Ugh.

Thx for the support Christian. I wish I could buy your D2H! Want to do a payment plan?

Well as much as I would love having a D2X, Im so in love with the D2H that I may even wait another year. My problem Is I like Nikon Glass too and I want the 200f2.0. Every other day I switch so I am clearly not ready to buy either glass or camera, You all will see soon enough and its funny around my house right now. All I have to do is stop my wife in the house and shes says go away I don't want to talk about glass or cameras anymore. Just go buy the D2X you know thats what your going to do. But she may be very surprise then again who knows.

I gotta tell ya though I feel blessed to have what I have and sometimes growing like this gets my mind off why I shoot in the first place. Thats why I regroup and sit on it.

Ok, here is the big question Daniel.... Glass or Camera?

I must say we do need to try and hook up someday. I would love to meet you and just hang, doing the photog chat, . I think if I were to do it all over again a PJ would be right up there in the top 3.

Camera, then glass.

Having a 400 2.8 only marginally helps you when you have a D70. I own an 80-200 2.8, but the AF is less than stellar on my camera. Now, when I eventually buy a D2H [if I stay on the darkside), then the lens should do great.

Until then, I've got Michael Andretti in a pinto...

Where do you live Christian? I am in Seattle, WA. If you are ever in town, I would love to hang out and chat, go shoot the scene.

edit: I see you live in Central Oregon. Well, if you ever feel like making up the breezy 5 hour or so? drive from Portland to Seattle, let me know!

Actually Daniel asides from the fact that it sux to have to pay for the repair I am kinda relieved it's only that! Not bad at all in my mind, all my repairs cost more than that.

On a side note as to AF performance I figure the F70 (N70) and the D70 are pretty close and when I mount a lens to my F100 it's unreal the difference it makes. I have used a D2X but haven't had the chance to compare AF speed swapping the lens off the D70, was too busy playing with it however I imagine it would be a marked difference as was the F70 to F100 or D70 to F100.

The flare, you shoot digital, I figure you have a very expensive polaroid back at you fingertips.

I am not a master of lighting yet Jasin. I did my best, and if given the opportunity, will surely be able to apply recent knowledge of light control to the shoot.

I know that's alot of money for you Daniel. But you get back one of my favorite lenses for sports. Great news it wasn't trash or some cost higher. Any idea when you'll get it back?

Bill,

I just paid the estimate yesterday, and the transaction went through this afternoon. I am hoping to get the lens back in my hands in about 2 weeks.

And I am really not complaining about $200. I was expecting $500+. Someone in El Segundo loves me very much

--

Brad,

What happened to ur D70's shutter?
