Thanks to Jako, Mcfadded and as they say in the awards shows others to numerous to mention I have followed my heart and purchased a D2Hs along with a Sigma 30 F1.4, a new tripod&head, some more lighting equipment, a 300F4, and etc. Next summer I wil go high res with an X or D200 but in the meantime as Jacko put it - I am going to practice my craft and teach my daughter photography with two fine bodies (D70 and D2Hs), a fine collection of lenses, and a great studio lighting kit. We are going to have a blast. No more questions about noise. No looking at the forums to see about the D200, and no pixel peeping. We are going to take great pics, PRINT great pics, and have fun doing it.
I may come back to post some of our awsome work.
I have gotten a lot out these forums (BS filter best advice of all) and again thanks to all.
Mazel...noise isn't the enemy if it looks like grain, just remember that I love grain, a completely smooth picture, to me, is growing more and more unappealing...And besides, at average print sizes, it gets compressed to a very manageable size Enjoy your new gear.

Ditto that... I've avoided using the ISO800 on my D70 until I got my 70-200 VR, then magic happens!!! ISO800 looks just like film, and I tend to use ISO800 just to get that film-like look.
But then again, I don't make my living off taking pictures in low-light conditions. For a wedding photographer shooting in church with no flash. The high ISO performance of the 5D will be VERY useful, IMHO.
I still can't believe that 5D@ISO3200 shots got less noise then my D70@ISO800.
I have been having a grain fest since I bought a brand new el cheapo 500mm mirror lens found in a junk bin at Charlotte Camera. For $50 I have the equivalence of a 750 F8/11 lens with paper thin DOF. I can shoot it handheld at 1500 sec with the ISO set at 1600. I them usually have to push the image along in PS which further granulates the pic. Way cool! Great at car shows for people grabbing.

I wouldn't be surprised if it were true.....it holds up really well at ISO 3200, and it has more pixels which would help a print appear to be lower noise.
Then again, it's no secret that a 5D is better than a D70. For $3000, it better damn well be!

J
How about actual pictures that I've seen? Are you saying people edited/faked the EXIF data?
Pretty soon I should have one to play around with, and I will take some test shots to find out myself. However at this point I must say that the 5D is pretty darn impressive noise wise.
