p.1 #1 · OK Now need daughter lens

Thanks for the advice help re my teenage daughters camera. After much debate she has decided that she would like to use my D70 on two conditions:

First - No lens changing at this point - "maybe later dad" That means a lens just for her.

Second - I have to get a new camera and have the D70 as my backup - "I do not want to even think it is possible to break your only camera...too much presure dad"

Given that she likes to take lots of pics of her Peeps/crew in relativily tight quarters and also wants to take some soccer and concert pics I was thinking of the Sigma 18-200. It has decent range but is still small and light. Although not up to the standards of my 17-55 etc, I have to believe it is an increadible lens compared to what you would find on the typical point and shoot. There are limitations but....

Any comments?

My wife thinks it is just way to convienent that I have to get a new camera.....and it probably is.

I would say the D70 kit lens, or something in that vein. Maybe even the cheap kit lens (18-55) if it's just a trial period.

For covering concerts, get her the 50 f/1.8, or let her borrow yours.

As for sport, that's when youll want to let her borrow your 70-200 VR!

Use any excuse you can - and this is a good and valid one!

18-55 kit lens is not as good as the 18-70 based on what I have heard, although I have never used either.

kit lens, for sure. i have used it on my d2x on occasion and for the price, it is a very admirable performer.

give her the 18-70 which is a good lens... and then get a 70-300 for her sports shooting (cheap and adequate). I know she said no lens changing, but these can be switched at home knowing where she's going and left on.

Get the Sigma 30mm 1.4

I don't ever remember using a single zoom lens at all for years when I first started learning about photography.
