p.1 #1 · D1H & SB-800 - Super Overexposed

Hi All,

I just aquired a D1H and while shooting with the SB-800 mounted I'm getting totally blown out shots. Settings are:

ISO: 200
Program
TTL BL

I think the FEC is set to 0 but it's a new cam to me, how can I be sure?

Anyone have any insight for me on this one?

Many thanks,

Jim in PA

The D1's/D100's don't work great with the 'new' ITTL type flashes (SB800/600) but even with the D2 I always turn the flash down to -2/3 and use exposure comp on the camera at +.3.
This little combo seems to work great.
When I use the D1 or D100 I turn the flash down to -1 and still shoot at +.3 on the body.
Also try shooting with shutter or app priority rather than program.
Try this and see what happens.

Thanks for the quick reply Gav. I'll give those settings a try. This brings me to my next question(s): Would I be better off picking up an SB-28DX or and SB-80DX for the D1H? If so what's the difference between the 2? All I can see is the 80 gives you wireless remote but that's not something I use so I'm thinking a 28dx would do fine.

Best way to practice. I always to to make sure test flash on Teddy Bear (Giant Panda) or pottery.
Sometime, I used to set up either manual or Aperture on my D1h/x. I seem no problem with SB-800 and Q-Flash T2D.
