p.1 #1 · 24mm f/2.8 Hood?

Any idea what I can do about a hood for my 24mm f/2.8 non-D lens?

I noticed the front doesn't rotate...im tempted to cut my own hood out of a hood for a tele.

The lens loses contrast easily when sun is near the frame or in the image

Mark,
you will probably be better off making your own hood if have an old one to work with. Nikon's official accessory hood is the HN-1, but that is specced to work on a film body, and is pretty short anyway. So with a digital body you could use a hood with more effective shielding.
Try using a cardboard tube to see how much you can shield the lens before you get any vignetting, then you can decide what the hood needs to look like

You can use Nikon HN-2 on thsi lens (on a film body) if you don't have a filter attached to the lens. The HN-3 is a bit deeper, and should work fine on a digital body.

Or, you can pick up an aftermarket rubber folding hood for $5 and fold back to
one segment. This set up should not vignette on an Nikon digital plus it will take a good over the shoulder doorway whack with little or no damage. This little trick worked well on a 35mm f2 on a film camera; the 24mm is a 36mm equivalent on a D70 or whatever Nikon you're shooting so there is no vignette..
