Anyway lets here some thoughts about the 24-105/4 IS (if it does come up, which i think it will)

I think it is a very very good idea to put IS in such a lens and it will give the 24-70L a huge run for its money. 1 Stop of Light versus IS.... I think i would rather get the IS lens and get a nice fast 50/1.4 for low light stuff that require high shutter speed...

Any comments??

What could be the price of such a lens? Would it extend while zooming like the 28-105mm USM?

Not sure where you get that idea from. The 5D doesn't replace the 20D.

Well, that lens and the 5D sure look like fine gear. So it seems it wasn't a rumour after all...

If this 24-105 is a good optical performer, it is going to be a hot seller. I will be seriously considering buying it, and getting rid of my 24-70. 24 mm with good optical performance at f1/4.0 means taking pictures at 1/4 - 1/6 of a second handheld... comb ine this with a better ISO performance and well...

I may get this lens to go with my new 1D MkII N

On a full frame body this would be my perfect single lens travel solution. I love my 24-70mm f/2.8 for weddings but this will give it a run for its money for event photography when I am shooting in low light. IS at 35mm f/4 gives me the effective speed of the 35mm f/1.4 L but with better DOF for group shots. It also gives me effectively 2 stops on the 24-70mm in low light.

This WILL be making its way to my bag.

Now we have a new troika of f4 lenses....

17-40L
24-105L IS
100-400L IS (i would not consider the 70-200/4 because it aint got IS!!!)

What a killer combo.....

I may trade my 24-70 but my 70-200 IS is staying in the bag!

If the 100-400 was a constant F4, that'd be awesome, but it's not even F4 anywhere in its zoom range (it's f4.5-5.6)...

I guess I don't understand how people had time to make a screenshot of the front page but no screenshots of the inside pages on these "new" products. It would have only taken a few seconds more to have some really nice info of the new flash or the Mark II N yet all we get is a cover page?

Wow! All hail, p5freak

Question:
At FF/105mm/f4 what kind of DoF can one expect with regard to isolating "in-focus" subject [eg street portraits]?

Quick Notes:
1.Given that it is an "L" it almost surely has weather sealing.
2. IS at this range will be extremely useful for capturing subject motion.
3. Curious as to weight/size?
4. What's the guess on price? Over/under 24-70L?

It was obvious to me even before I read the answer to that question. The links were dead! No big surprise to me, most of the pages I develop are like that.

The 24-105 f/4 L IS is appealing to me if it's lighter than the 24-70 f/2.8 L. My bag for landscape shooting contains the 15mm fisheye, 17-40, 24-70 and 70-200 f/4. If the 24-105/4 is half the weight of the 24-70/2.8, that would be a welcome weight saving. I pretty much always shoot at f/8-f/16, very occasionally at f/5.6, so f/4 isn't an issue.

Yes, the 20D will be discontinued and the 1D MkII N will accept EF-S lenses.

The links werent working, gave a "not found" error. I believe they just uploaded the front page, realized they screwed up, and now the page is down.

Interesting photo on the page right now saying "trying to restore normal services....." I wonder if that is the guy who leaked the info !!

Looks like I have to place my name on a waiting list for the 5D+1Dmk2N !
