Why do I get no match for a whois search on canon5d.com on the internic website?
I was wondering the same thing after doing a whois from the command line. Internic's DB must not be updated yet, which makes sense since the 5D rumor only started today.
I still don't get the "invisible" focus points... I mean, I had a D30 and the lack of "red" confirmation killed me. However, I guess with a 96% coverage and 0.71x (ie about the same viewfinder size as the Eos 3), it's going to be a little easier to see what's going on.
Like I said, I'll pay $3k (when I'm done school) not to have to convert focal lengths for the wife and to be able to put back on the 85L on this bad boy for some sick backgrounds.
Looks real to me, and makes a lot of sense as well. It's like a 1D series body with the vertical grip chopped off, and then transformed into a BEEFY, (and juicy) 20D body.
People keep saying that this camera is an "upgrade" to whatever camera, but it's really not. This is a whole new line. It can replace your old 1Ds, but they're still two totally different cameras. The 1Ds2 is still a more appropriate upgrade to the 1Ds.
This "5D" looks really awesome though. The 3fps doesn't bother me, since I hardly use the 5fps I have on the 20D. I'm guessing when the 1Ds series becomes a 22mp camera, we'll have a 3D, with the same body, except 45 AF points, more FPS, and 16megapixels.
While this (if real) may not be the perfect camera for every purpose, it looks excellent for most serious amateur work + pro weddings, also studio and landscape if not quite top end of the market. It could also be used for sports and PJ work, if not ideal at 3 fps. It seems to have a decent size of buffer, which matters more than absolute frame rate. Recall that most of the great PJ photographers of the past used hand-wound Leicas at 2 fps or less. If it's real, I want one!
