I take my hat off to some fine detective work...
Well, it looks like $4000 right? That's a large chunk of change... maybe closer to $3k here? I hope they at least put a really good shutter in the thing.
I personally think this is a great camera - 3fps doesn't seem like too much of a limitation to me but I'm coming for the 300d point of view. As long as the buffer clears quickly (ie. maybe 2 seconds or so for one RAW) and can hold like 5 or 6 RAWs, then I can't imagine it would be a limitation for most people.
Heck, I'd just be happy not to have to do focal length*1.6 for my wife and gain back that DOF control that you lose with the crop factor.
First of all, I think the image is odd looking. A 20D back and a 1 series front just do not match right. The 20D was built around the APS-C sensor and this one is full frame? It just does not smell right to me. To me, as an answer to the d2x, this is not it...maybe an answer to the d200 if this is real. If it is real, the 1dmk2n would probably be the answer to the d2x, and I hope it is true because then the 1dmkII will drop in price more and I might finally get one.
The strangest thing to me is calling it the 5d. Why would Canon do this? There already has been a 5D announced....Konica Minolta Dynax/Maxum 5D.

I agree. For a "tweener" camera, I think the front looks like a much better representation than the back. It's alway possible that one of the images is real (I would guess the front one), and the rear one is a Photochop. But like I said before, I guess we'll have to wait and see.

This holier than thou attitude, often expressed in this forum (Canon Gear) is silly. If you're so into the "game" why are you reading a forum dedicated to "toys."
"The right tool for the job" applies to photography and I like learning about and using the latest most powerful tools...
Your last sentence applies to me too, and explains why I am reading this forum. I just wanted to say the level of interest on the next thing is disproportionate with the difference it is likely to make to photographers. Sorry if that came across as a holier than thou attitude, am just still very happy with my 10D, but dont get me wrong, I am happy about new cameras, because they bring affordable full frame a step closer.
Edit:
35.8 x 23.9mm CMOS
12.8 million effective pixels
Bah its not full frame, its missing 0.2mm horizontally and 0.1mm vertically. Its a 1.01 crop camera. just kidding obviously
You know i understand where your comming from, but is'nt it exciting anyway? tonight i'm going to chicago to see the new leaf aptus digital back i will never afford one but i think it's intresting. and if this 5d or whatever it is a substantial upgrade to the 10d AND affordable i'm all over it - as i can only afford to upgrade every other upgrade. and really this full frame 12 megapixel camera will allow me to make larger prints and that means more money and that means more enjoyment...
Suppose the 5D is for real and its price would be more or less equal to the price of the 1DmkII, which would you buy?
Though I've been looking/waiting for a FF camera, I think I would choose the 1DmkII:
1) Faster AF, more FPS
2) Robust body etc...
3) Now I've used the 1D for 18 months, I think the 1.3x crop is a good compromise (1.6x is still too much for me though)
4) I have grown a 1-series addiction

Exactly my point.. Even if my film EOS 5 camera is still my backup film camera i guess i will pass over the little digital brother for now. But (yea there is always a "but"), this so called EOS 5D might do a fine little studio and stock-work camera..
