Personally, I will likely jump on it if-
1- It has improved dynamic range over the 20D.
2- Lower noise than the 20D
3- More accurate AF than the 20D
If not, I can’t see up grading for Full Frame alone. There have got to be some other improvements as well. What do you all think?
I don't care about any of that, actually. It literally could be an FF 20D, and I'd pay $2,500 for it. But for $3,500 - I'd just as soon get a 1D MKII. The thing about the noise levels is that even if it's identical to the 20D, it will have apparently lower noise levels at equivalent print sizes due to the extra resolution.
I must say, I saw this forum topic and had to become a member based on it alone. Yes, there are 2 cameras about to be officially announced, but it seems alot of people on the web have some facts mixed up. Although I didn't get actual names, it was made clear from my source that Canon is bringing 2 new cameras to market, but that alot of groups online have "mixed up a bunch of stats between the two." From what I know, the "lower" of the two cameras (presumably the 5d mentioned here) is a camera being introduced at a lower price point than the rebel xt...A natural competitor for the Nikon D50.
The other camera spoken of was a new iteration of the 1DmkII. This was to presumably have closer to a 13mp sensor, increased buffer, ect...Hard to believe that the 1DmkII is already getting upgraded, being such a great camera. The thing is, whenever the Olympics are around the corner, Canon releases its new "Press" camera, and usually directly to those assigned to cover such a high profile event...
From what Ive heard, the horse's mouth should have some good things to say in the next week or two.
there may be something called a 5D, but the "leaked" stuff doesn't mesh. I know I could produce two low-res photos like the one's we've seen with only an hour or two's work. plus full-frame technology is just too expensive to produce a new camera with a new sensor for that price. the pixel density doesn't match a 20D, 1D2, or 1Ds2, 1Ds, 350D, or 10D/300D. it's too soon for a new density! plus this "5D" falls way too short to be a D2X-killer. It just stinks of fakeness...
wait and see what the new cameras will be. in the meantime, get a used 1Ds for less!
I can't believe that Canon will release something below the 350D. I offered this camera to my wife and it is almost perfect.
I believe the 5D will come out as a FF camera. This is the next logical step and, btw, even if it is FF for all of us, it will be quite expensive, at least 2x a 20D. But there is a huge market for it and a lot of amateurs and pros are waiting for this kind of camera.
There is not a major revision of the 1 series coming for another year. The 1D2N is going to be an incremental upgrade, similar to what Nikon's done with the D2Hs.
I don't really buy this 'leak'. I guess it's the '1D markII N' that is a bit over the top... That naming is just ridiculous... What will the next 1D be named? "1D Mark II N Mark II"?
And a Canon EOS 5D when minolta is bringing out a Minolta 5D consumer model? Seems rather strange to me.
Furthermore, a 3000-4000 EUR camera with a mode dial? Ahum...
But... the specs?
They are really nice. Face it, everyone hoping canon to introduce a tweener and expecting a 1DsmarkII in a smaller body for 50% of the price are just unrealistic. Canon wants some people to pay the premium for the 1DsII...
And no, it is not a superfast camera, but it fills up a nice niche market (studio work and landscape). I guess Canon judges the 1DmarkII at the moment more than adequate for those needing a speedgun (sport photography)
I am wondering wether this camera is what I'm looking for; no ISO indication in the viewfinder is a real dissapointment (Canon should be able to introduce this fairly easy and for free).
I would have loved weather sealing, more fps (although I seldom use them) and spot metering on all AF points, but than again..it would be a 1DsII in a small body for 50% of the price = unrealistic
If Canon announces this camera, I will seriously consider buying it (and sell of my 50L to finance it). The bigger viewfinder and the fact that my lenses will have their designed focal lengths again are the main reasons for wanting a FF camera, my 24-70 L is useless on 1/1,6 sensor (lacks WA) and the 16-35 lacks the portrait ability (just a bit short) to be a good allround lens

Canon uses the "n" to indicate that there have been minor changes made--more than a firmware fix, not enough to change the actual name. There won't be an "n" engraved on the camera.

So? Canon brought out their premier F-1 when Nikon had their own premier F1.

If this camera has a mode dial, we only know it from the photos we've seen (which may or may not be authentic). But if we're believing it has a mode dial from those photos, then from those photos we also see that the mode dial does not have the "Basic Zone" settings. The camera is not weathersealed, so there's no reason for it not to have a dial rather than buttons.

The 20D is a junior 1D, the 5D would be a junior 1Ds. The 20D is $3500 cheaper than the 1D, the 5D would be $5000 cheaper than the 1Ds.
Considering that this camera would have been planned two or three years ago, I suspect that Canon was actually aiming at Kodak's niche. If Kodak were still in the business, that's what the comparison would be with, and it would be a clearly superior camera to Kodak's offering.
If this is a fake, I wish the artist would just come forward so we can build a statue of his/her likeness to be placed at the front door of Adobe's headquarters. Michael Jordan style!

Actually if you think outside the box, this would be pretty easy to do in Maya, 3ds max, Lightwave or another 3D design app. Any 3D design student could have made this as part of assignment. The dementions would be perfectly controlled.
Right...but it would have to be rendered from scratch which is what I'm saying. People are acting like this is a photoshop chop-job where someone took parts from a 1D and a 20D (or others) and merged them in PS. This is definitely not the case with these images.
It may be easy to do (I've played around in 3DS Max...way over my head!)....but I'd venture to guess that there's not NEARLY as many people who would be interested in pulling off such a hoax that are that talented in Maya or 3DS Max as the masses are skilled in Photoshop.
I think the 5D sounds pretty cool for what I do and if I was still a film shooter I'd jump all over it. Since I have the 20D and 1Ds, though, I don't see that selling my current gear and jumping to the 5D offers me all that much. I'd get higher resolution for high-ISO shots, which I don't need, and higher resolution for my backpacking and trip camera, which isn't worth the hassle of selling off my current cameras and EF-S lenses (I love my EF-S lenses + the 70-300 DO). I think I'll wait until I can get the next 1Ds at 20+ MP resolution.
For all the claims that the 5D pics would be fairly easy to do in a modeller, I have yet to see anyone come out and say "here's a version I made, look" and have it be yet another completely new and different looking body that still holds so well to Canon styling. We're waiting...
Other news sites have already discredited this story as being based on the leaked specs pdf and having no other source.
I am not saying that it's not real. I just think the article is a editorial of a rumor not actual news.

Wait no more...
Here's one that will get you really drooling! I'd post the picture rather than the link, but since I saw it on another board, I think that I'll leave it up to the creator to post the actual picture since the creator is here as well {Hint, cyberdyne post it in multiple thread, Hint}
Has anyone noticed that it does not have a built in flash? The top seems to look like the 1d with a idiot mode knob added on the left of the camera (from behind)
