Everyone is talking about this as if it is a camera for the masses. IMHO It's a studio camera. It would be the perfect upgrade from a 20d for anyone that shoots wide angle a lot or who has wide L lenses and is unwilling to accept the 1.6 magnification of the 20d. But without weather seals, only a 9 point AF on 12/13mp and 3 fps continous the camera is just a affordable studio camera approaching medium format film quality.
Another thing that nobody seems to have mentioned is that the Specs PDF says it's compatable with Mac OS X 10.4 (aka Tiger). Canon's current software suite does not, so there would most likely be a new version of Digital Photo Pro and EOS Capture released with this camera... if it's real?

Yeah but it's not that easy to render an entirely new camera body that isn't based on anything out there...
Actually if you think outside the box, this would be pretty easy to do in Maya, 3ds max, Lightwave or another 3D design app. Any 3D design student could have made this as part of assignment. The dementions would be perfectly controlled.
I don't understand why the big mystery. There's a huge gap between the 20D and 1DsMKII... A HUGE GAP, and a 5D makes perfect sense... Could this "leak" be made to combat the recent praise for NIKON's D2X, which is half the money of the 1DsMKII, and will falls somewhat more costly than the 5D, and also appears more professional and possibly produces as higher a quality image as the 1DsMKII? For me, shooting with a 20d and 10d with only a few non-L lenses, the choice gets more complicated and it's not choosing which Canon to "wait for".....but making the switch to NIKON and Nikon glass, or sticking with Canon and purchasing new canon glass
As a working pro I shoot mostly location portraiture and I really could care less if my image sensor is full frame or APS as long as my images are tact sharp, color correct, and I know what my depth of field is doing. Does full frame close the sale? Not really. Does the number of megapixel close the deal? No, it's not that either. There's pixel density, camera body construction and lens factors to also consider. One factor to consider with APS vs Full Frame is the flash you're using. With APS you will be FURTHER away from your subject (generally speaking) and will also have a greater depth of field with the same lens conversions. With full frame you're closer to your subject and with less depth of field, great for portrait work.
So, the debate and weighing of options gets harder and harder, but products get better, less expensive and the bottom line for me: selling images. I routinely print 16x20 & 20x24s with 20D images. I don't have much latitude with exposure or focus, but that's no news to anyone that been working professionally. Good in, makes good out... The major factors for the 5D is going to be IMAGE Quality, Print Quality and camera body construction. My 20D and 10D both suck dust like a vacuum cleaner, requiring routine cleaning. I feel lucky that I haven't dumped a TON of money into digital cameras, but await that ONE camera that will provide all the features that I need. My list is fairly short. High quality capture, pricing that equals profits from three or four wedding sessions, sharp prints up to 24x30, and sealed construction keeping all the internals clean and working for many years.... Doesn't seem like much to ask.....

Strange you say DPP doesn't run on Tiger. It's been running on my iMac since I upgrade to Tiger in April.
I didn't say it doesn't run. I said that Canon dosen't say it's compatable. To quote Canon's Website: "Canon is conducting compatibility tests for the current versions of Canon digital imaging software with the shipping versions of Mac OS X 10.4 [Tiger]. Results will be posted soon. For now, Canon is not claiming compatibility with Mac OS X 10.4". This has been on there website since the beginning of May.
DPP runs fine on all 3 of my macs running tiger, but EOS Capture nor Capture One will talk to my 20d since upgrading to Tiger even after the 2.0.2 firmware update.
Even if this camera is for real, why are people keeping to compare it to actual canon models?
Upgrade for this, successor for that. Is it only me who thinks this camera would be a completely new line of camera? In my eyes this is neither an upgrade of a 20D nor (even much less) something like a 1-Series camera...
Can someone explain the benefits of a full-frame camera again to me? Currently we have the 10D and 20Ds, and according to the specs of the 5D, nothing much has been changed except for the full-frame capabilities and the higher price tag. The benefits I know of full-frame cameras like the 1ds/1dsmk2 is:
- wide angles remain wide angles
- you see more of the frame through the viewfinder (brighter viewfinder?)
I only view the ability of wide staying wide as the only thing I'm interested in if that's all the changes there are to having a full-frame camera, since I primarily shoot wide.

I have not read almost any of the posts but what the heck maybe it is real and maybe this is a good thing after all said and done, it just gives us more choices to make good educated purchasing decisions for ones own shooting style . I don't comparing it to any other in the line is worth the time and effort , it is just a new model and i rather us concentrate on what it can do and what it can't do. i know some comparisions will be made but maybe we should think on a different level than saying it is better or worse than the 20d and see where it fits in the lineup to see if it is a workable camera for some. First it has FF that alone is completely new and exciting and not having to spend 8 grand , I did and think this is a great option for many to get FF without the cost so maybe take the positive approach to this model . the 20 D Xt and the current line will still be sold so you have choices without losing your shirt on what you own today, to me with 3 bodies and 14 grand into them , that certainly is a postive. ...Show more →

stop being logical and pragmatic , you are hurting the reputation of this fine board
I for one hope that Canon at some point just has 1.6 and FF versions of each body. The XT/XTf, 20D/20f, 1D/1Df, and so on. Let the people who want FF pay the premium and get what they want. I think it would be a shame to have the pro-level bodies be all FF, and the amateur all 1.6. We'll see.
Well if true (and it does seem to make a lot of sense), it is likely out of my price range but really helps in my decision between the Sigma 18-50 and the L 17-40. I'm more leery than ever of the EF-S lenses now as full-frame inches its way toward the amateur market.
It does suck that I bought a 420ex literally the day before I heard of a replacement. Oh well.
I thought I would never see a need for it on my D2x , but sheesh it really is handy and since it is cutting all the way around the image the real feeling is that you aren't loosing much , but in the editing woweeee so much faster to edit a 7MP image than a 12.5 MP image , the other neat thing is it is like cheating a bit , I can see the image coming into frame a bit before it is really "there " , Guy I need all the help I can get
I think the original rumor of two new bodies makes more sense. Both bodies will be full frame with the higher end taking on the d2x with more features for less money, probably the 1dmk3. Nikon’s profits are way up so Canon needs to act and act soon. What this all comes down to is what is the quality of the CMOS sensor that’s being talked about? It’s also possible that the higher end model will have a Foveon sensor. What’s an even crazier rumor was that one of the models will have a new lens mount. This would signal a new series of lenses, maybe a Zeiss killer. Don’t you think this stuff would make for a good script for CSI Miami?
