I am compiling an email list of MN FM members that want to participate. This email list will help organize shoots or meetings or other activities and help us communicate local activities.
We all have a passion for photography and I feel we can learn from each other no matter the skill level or status of amateur or pro.
No brand wars will be allowed. It aint about the gear, folks.
If you wish to participate in this email list please send an email to me at:
Your real name both first and last
Your email address
Your FM handle/nickname
Your city or general area so we know who is kinda where so we know who to go to for things in different parts of the state.
My motives here are just to bring our part of this great on-line community closer. Sort of our own little FM camera club. I am not compiling this list for spamming purposes.
[Edit]
NOTE: Once you join this list you will be added to an email list server where members can send one email to the server and it will be forwarded to all members.
I have sent PMs to most members that I know of so if you got a PM ignore this.
Only respond via email or you will not be included in the list.

Just to clarify - the email list will be shared among everyone participating. I will not be the only keeper. I'm just organizing the first iteration of it.
Now 15 people have responded so far. That makes 16 including me. If I get
any more responses I will send it out to the list. I do expect to hear
from a couple more.
I think some ground rules are in order to keep things civil and on an
even plane.
Let's keep it about photography.
No brand wars or evangelizing your favorite brand. It does not matter
if you use P&S or SLR, film or digital, Nikon or Canon or Sony or
Olympus or Pentax or Minolta or Mamiya or Hasselblad.
Let's be respectful and open to others suggestions. Even if I
completely disagree with you, it's still your opinion and I respect
your right to it.
I don't think we should limit the group to FMers only. If we know
someone who is into photography, bring 'em along.
Enough rules.
OK, enough talk. Let's get out there and shoot! Who's got ideas?
Suggestion: I wouldn't mind doing an urban shoot in Minneapolis or St. Paul since I have never done that before. It would be really nice to do it with others who have to get tips on angles and such.

There's my first 2 cents.
Well then, I have a suggestion. On Friday, July 15th, an organization that I volunteer for is having a block party in North Minneapolis. It is in the troubled Harwthorne neighborhood, where violence takes place on a daily basis. The idea behind the block party is to get people together in a friendly atmospherre so that it becomes harder to commit violence against someone you know...
That said, there have been 2 other block parties earlier this summer, and the photographic opportunities have been great. Things like a dunk contest, rappers singing -- dancing in the streets, a barbeque cookout, and a petting zoo along with pony rides. There are children, teenagers and adults of all different races, and everyone is in a good mood. For those looking for it, this is a really good chance to practice some photojournalism techniques.
It is perfectly safe, as there are police always around, and security is hired as well. I have had a really good time at the first two, and have gotten some great pictures (well... great for me, anyways ).

My typical luck, I am on a canoe trip Fri. Sat. and Sun. Your right though, a block party would be a good place.

Or Fuji?
The block party sounds great, but not sure I can make Friday. What time?
Hi Minnesotans,
I am from Iowa, will be travelling to your neck of the woods in the first week of October. Will be going up to Silver Bay hoping to see some fall colors. Any suggestions on where to go and see would be greatly appreciated. I have heard there are some cool waterfalls in the area too, any directions or links to get there?
Thanks.
