that doesn't sound right I just spoke with my guy at the pro shop who talked last week to the nikon rep , who told him Nikon was holding firm till 3rd quarter of this year, anyway Nikon, if they did tell at PMA would not have product for a year at least, last yesr they promined a 70 -210mm vr and it has yet to show its pretty face
i love them and I love Apple computer , do not ask me why........
Yeah, I wouldn't take them too serious... (actually I wouldn't take them any serious), as Saxofonix said, they're well known from their scamming... Probably just another way of getting people's money...
The new D2 will use the D1X body with a 7.8 megapixel Foveon Sensor.
This will equal the resolution of three times the Megapixel count or 23.4 Megapixel. The frame rate will be close to 15 frames per sec. This is all I can say at this point. Because of NDA I cannot reveal my source.
we'll see what happens...its just all rumors now...i kinda though i should have started out with canon sometimes too...but too much nikkor investments...cross ya fingers
the info all come apart at the 15 fps. Then it becomes a childish hoax and the whole rumor is a wash. 15 fps can't be real in any shape or form, and if it is, this isn't the type of thing that would be a want to have. It's stupid. At 5 or 6 fps it would be believable and desireable. Nikon wouldn't spend it's resources to achive 15 fps when there are so many other hurdles to overcome in a camera like this.
Until Nikon issues a press release every mention of a new Nikon D series camera is nothing but rumor...false rumor. Nikon's ability to keep a secret is astonishing. There will be no leaks before the official announcement. You can count on that.
I think we all sometimes wonder whether we made the right choice by going Nikon over canon but at the end of the day technology is nothing but a race. At the start of the race nikon was tops and stayed there for quite a while. Right now they look like they are slagging behind and in all fairness canon is leading the DSLR pack at the moment.
all it will take is for nikon to come out with something new that will floor the canon guys and once again they will lead the pack. this will undoubtedly go on ad infinitum....
interestingly I heard the same rumour (the one about a foveon chip in a nikon body) from a different source.... we can only wait and see
Nikon's secrecy makes the old soviet KGB look like the British Boulevard / "Gutter Press" paper The Sun.
Even IBM can't keep a secret that good -- and I can assure you IBM are one of the best at this.
However it just doesn't make any sense for Nikon not to look at something like a D2 / D2X.
As for 15 fps --I'm not sure what planet this technology is coming from -- currently not this one.
I am with you erikff, I love my D1x also. Digital cameras are like computers now, you buy what you think will carry you for a couple of years and try not to worry about the latest, greatest. Canon and Nikon will be in this digital arms race as long as they are in business.
It would be possible to get 15 FPS using a Foveon run in a lower resolution mode and using an electronic shutter. That's about the only way I could image this, and Nikon would never compromise to this degree IMO. Besides, how on earth would you control your shots at this rate, and think of how long you would have to wait for the buffer to empty!
I really doubt the D2, or whatever the decide to call it, will use a 7.8MP Foveon sensor for several reasons. I covered this in another post which was originally related to the introduction of a D2 at PMA:
If this D2 romour is true I wish it has mirror lock-up, please correct me if I am wrong only F5 has mirror lock-up as pro camera but check it out many models in canon, pentax, minolta etc.. have mirror lock-up even non pro models I dont understand Nikon I am seriously thinking to move other brand these days.
I have buddies in Japan who is pretty close to Nikon, first of all this next gen is very unlikely to be named as D2X, second it won't be Foveon for sure, third it's still 1.5x CCD based on F100, fourth nobody knows the pixel count yet, rumor says it's 8MP, i know pretty much of you'll be disappointed but hey this is not secret in Japan for quite some time.
Yeah and look at the lenses , a 10mm fisheye ! and a rebirth of the best long zoom ever the 200-400, those old Nikkors still bring between 4000 and 5000 dollars , why? they might be the best long zooms every made , oh yeah and they are BLACK
