I have found a 3rd party website that is offering an aftermarket battery grip for the Nikon D70. The units runs for $165 and seems to be a decent match for an aftermarket part.
that is the only alternative that is in the market for nikon d70. always I have thought that nikon was clumsy not to do d70 with grip, as d100. to my seems to me an aesthetic solution and a little useless little. greetings
The D70 was made as an entry level DSLR, much like the N60 and N70 were as film bodies. While we can argue that it would be nice to have all the extras, I don't believe they are needed to please Nikon's target customers. If someone is looking for the advanced options, he/she can purchase one of Nikon's higher end bodies.
The D70 has an excellent battery. I really can't imagine how could you possibly empty a full charged battery during a shoot to make one worry about a battery grip. Besides, you can always get a spare battery and drop it in your bag! Isn't that easier than carrying that spare battery in a really heavy and clumpsy extension of the bottom of our cameras?
Some people like it for the better vertical grip... well ok, each to his own. But then there's a D2X out there, with all that and more.
I recently stopped using my battery grip on my D100 - and now I love my D100 even more - the grip was cool and all, but made the camera so bulky... now with a D2h and D100 in my bag, I don't find the need for the grip anymore for walking around - I am keeping the grip only for when I need to use a 10-pin socket.

I disagree both Canon and Pentax produce grips for cameras in the same market segment and they are popular. I bet the D70 replacement will come with a grip option.
I find my 20D too small for my hands without the grip, I have the same problem when I use my friends D70. Others will have the same problem I have.

The Digital Rebel has a vertical grip but crippled firmware.
The D70 has custom functions but no vertical grip.
The 10D has mirror lockup. The D100 doesn't. In the film world, the EOS 3 has mirror lockup but not the F100.
The n80 has true spot metering but the EOS 3 doesn't.
It's all arbitrary. I'm amazed at people who find reasons for it and then attempt to argue that there's some iron clad law that a certain classes of cameras have certain features and certain other's don't. And the D70 is much closer to a digital N80 than a digital N65 and the N80 comes wth a grip available (partly to give it more heft for larger zooms).

Hoodman was showing their "Soon to be released" D70 grip at the recent Photoshop convention in Vegas. As with all of these third party add-ins. It used a little IR sending unit to trip the shutter, the same way as the D70 remote controle does.
The Hoodman, Harbortronics et all will soon (unless one has exclusives or rights in the states) are made in a huge facility in blow and other types of molding by:

I spoke with them at the PMA ( tried to speak with them, my Chinese is not that good, in fact I got to say hello and was lost after that.) Their product line is huge almost anything plastic that goes on the SLR or DSLR they have successfully made a fair copy of.
Many pictures on website. Many knockoffs, many copies, many of everything, pretty amazing these guys.. website is very slow....
