p.1 #1 · Acadia NP, which week in October to go for peak foliage?
I'm planning to make a trip to Acadia NP this October to check out the foliage and was wondering which week in October would be best to go in.
I can either go the first week (Oct 1-7th) or the third week (Oct 15-21th).
I'm also planning to go to White Mountains in New Hampshire and Letchworth State Park in Upstate NY.
This trip will be mainly for foliage and I will be driving up from NJ.
Which week would you guys recommend?
Thanks.

I believe there is a website that posts fairly up-to-date about fall foliage in that area, just as there is one for California's Sierra. Do a Google search.

I was there for a week and a half in 2013, arriving on 10/13. Peak had just started and by the time we left, it was ending. It's always a crap shoot for fall colors since it only lasts a week and a half or so anyway. Your best bet is the second week, but that's not in your post for options. I'd put bets on the third week then. If you are flexible, make reservations for both weeks and go when it is close to peak and cancel the other trip....

yeah I think the second week would be the safest option and I can take that week off, it's just that I only get 1 weekend off instead of 2 weekends (9 straight days off vs 7).
the peak colors at Letchworth State park in upstate NY, which is one of the parks that I want to visit, was Oct 16-23rd last year but that was later than usually according to park officials.
i'm going to do a bit of planning and see if 7 days would be enough for me to do Acadia, White Mountain, and Letworth.

It depends on the weather and night temperatures. This also affects when the trees start to lose their leaves as well. Better to be a little bit early than late and have the trees lacking foliage.

Altitude plays a large part in what's turning.
We were up there a couple of years ago in the second week of October and we were too early. We're going the second week this year and according to the website we will be too late.
