The bad news is that the lens took a fall tonight. I was unpacking the car and forgot I had the bag zipper open. The whole kit, 500/2x/1Dx made a resounding `plop`when it hit pavement. Bent the mounts on the 500 and 2x, but the 1DX seems OK.
I'll send the whole thing in for a checkup. Everything seems to be working alright except the 2x, which I will test in the morning. No proper light to give it a try.

I'm cringing reading this ... did the exact same thing a few years ago ('Only' a 150-500 Siggy on a T4i, but still) .... Hope everything checks out okay for you and cost isn't more than a couple of new flanges.
Nice eagles you nabbed .... continuing to be impressed with what I'm seeing from that new Sigma.
P.S.... here's an eagle I caught the other day with the 1.4x I grabbed from you. Been really pleased with how well its working with my 7D2100-400v2 https://dhussey.com/Photo/Fauna/_7D2_5467.jpg

Great eagle shots. That sucks about the drop....hopefully only mount damage. I've had my fair share of drops but so far none of my big lenses. But everyone that I have dropped has needed serious repairs even though there was no physical damage. Usually I kept using them and then issues showed up later. 100-400, 100-400II and 16-35 all needed repair. The 100-400s needed IS and AF replacements and symptoms only showed up many many months later. The 16-35 just needed elements realigned. My 100L was dropped also and that one is still going strong but it hit straight onto extended hood. I hope you are luckier and repairs are minimal.

Excellent images with the 2X.
Feeling bad to hear about the drop. Pray that the damage is minimal. Hope to see them in action soon.

Ive actually NEVER dropped a single camera or lens seriously. This time was the first. It was dark, and the NOISE.....man I'll never forget that noise!
The 1Dx AF points have all shifted to the right. so much that the cross (Center + 4 surround) are no longer in the central circle

Nice pics of the Eagle's like en all , sorry about the accident with the Lens+Camera hope that wont be too bad.
I love nature , its beutiful thing in our World. And this fascinating photos really good. Dears guys, what do you think about Sigma 500 Sport? Can you recommend any good shops, in order to buy this magic photo camer?
Finally got the lens back. There was nothing wrong with it, no optical misalignment or anything after falling from 5 feet on the pavement! Tough lens !
The 1DX however, needed 3 sub assemblies to repair. It took the most of the brunt. Shooting with the 5D3 for now.
All these are with the 5D3, TC1401, 500, f5.6, handheld, ISO800, 1/4000.
