Just getting started with this strobe lighting thing. Not fancy or anything, but it works for me. Does what I want it to so far... I've got another room I'm thinking about moving it all into for a little more space.

Well I'm a student right now, so getting paid for modeling shoots is something that I don't do.

But story behind the logo was I did a shoot for my friends band, but to get credit for the photos I wanted to put a logo on there and I already that logo from a t-shirt design for a clothing line I put out so it was a quick fix. I like it so it will stay like that until I build a real site and am getting paid for modeling shoots.

Hi Everyone:- I've been reading this post since it's inception. I have the various pdf s filed to consult when we build our studio.
Our studio is unique in that we carry it with us. We shoot dog shows and travel to the event. Our product is about quality for the dog owners.
I am going to add a hair light this year. Most of our customers will not know why they like our photos just that ours are better than our competitors. Hopefully that will get us new business.

Here's our setup

We carry the tables, chairs, curtains, carpets and everything with us. We typically setup for three days. We are there from 8;00 am to around 4:30 unless there are specialties at night, then we are there until about 9:00pm.
Our big times to shoot are after the shows. Around 12:30 and 3:30 to 4:00
During those times we will shoot up to 100 portraits. The rest of the days are taken up shooting headshots and dog portraits and reshooting if the dog was restless during the rush times. I wish we could be more creative but typical ribbon photos of dogs need to be flat lighting and show the dog in it's specific pose.
We are carrying some props and different backdrops now so our portraits look different. I am going to try some greenscreen and digital backgrounds on our next trip to see how that's accepted.

Chris,

This is one of the best portable setups I've come across. Very nicely done!

It doesn't seem like you need to build a standard studio - You already have one. And the bonus is that it's portable.

Just curious as to what you want in a standard studio above and beyond what you have now.

Ah AJ:- the studio wish list question. When we build it will be 600 to 800 sq feet shooting area. Workshop/prop storage area, Computer room, Viewing area/lounge total of 1100 to 1200 sq ft.
High ceilings
Ceiling rails for lights
4 AB1600s
2 AB 400s (for closer work and when I need lower power with the 1600s)
various reflectors and modifiers
A green screen area
Props - Could I have props - Probably more than I would ever use.

When the studio build time comes it will be aimed at pet photography for me
and Babies and pregnant women for my daughter.

That's a couple of years away so we have lots of time to plan.

Maybe we should expand this thread to include the studio wish list as well?

Thanks for sharing Chris. This is a really nice set up. Although it does not show itin the pictures, there could be a lot of other "backup equipment and accessories" to carry. Just wondered what your criteria is whether to attend a 3 day event or not. How do you know you will break even or make a profit. How do you reduce the downsides. And what factors do you take into account before deciding to book the space to attend.

What a wonderful thread. I have gone through all the pages, and there are many
fabulous photographers I am admiring.

On the other hand, I am pretty sad that the Daschund Woof's Studio images
don't appear anymore. I am a great fan of his work, and would be very happy
to see where and how he is working!

Please Daschund, could you post those images once again?

Hi Freespirit:- About the only other stuff not shown is the box with invoices and paper work stuff and the cases we carry the computers, curtains etc.
I have a slide out tonneau cover on my pickup and everything fits in there except the computer box and the cameras (they go in the back seat)
During the summer we travel in a fifth wheel trailer and everything sits on the floor of the trailer. We camp on the grounds with the doggy people. It's great, very social.

My criteria is if I can get accepted as the official photographer. Everything we shoot is on spec but because the exhibitors need the ribbon photos to advertise the dogs we have a good buy rate - 80% +. The good thing about this is that once I have a dog show as the OP I can keep it as long as we do a good job. I am going into my third year as the photographer at one show. I received an email from the show secretary telling me that some of the exhibitors asked if we are going to be there again and were relived we would be there. We have signed shows because a couple of customers have reccomended us to the organizers. We have four shows that have us signed indefinately to provide photographic services.

I dont know which pg was Woof's studio images, however, the first 160 pgs were archived here for same reason that people take off the photogs from their sites

Thought you all might find these interesting. These were taken at the Airesearch plant in Phoenix AZ sometime in the early 60's. You may know it better as Honeywell now. Still making Turbine Engines.
