p.1 #1 · Zeiss "Batis" AF lens line to be released for FF E-mount

http://www.sonyalpharumors.com/sr4-big-surprise-zeiss-to-announce-a-new-batis-line-for-fe-autfocus-25mm-f2-0-and-85mm-f1-8-fe-lenses-coming/

Apparently there will be a 25mm f/2 and 85mm f/1.8. Not beyond the realms of possibility since we have the Touit line which has AF for the E-mount.

It's now an SR5, but part of me still thinks it's fake as there's no mention of a 35mm

p.1 #2 · Zeiss "Batis" AF lens line to be released for FF E-mount

It's official:

http://www.zeiss.com/camera-lenses/en_de/website/landing_pages/batis.html

It makes for a lot of Zeiss native lenses for the Sony E-mounts with the Loxia & Batis for FF and Touit for APS-C not to mentioned the pseudo Zeiss Sony lenses...

Gives us FF:
25mm F2.0 AF Batis
35mm F2.0 MF Loxia
50mm F2.0 MF Loxia
85mm F1.8 AF Batis

They must be doing fairly well from the FE system...

Haha, cross post, I'll delete mine ... the 25/2 is pretty appealing

Batis: are small stout insect-eating birds, usually found in open forests or bush. The nest is a small neat cup low in a tree or bush. They hunt by flycatching, or by taking prey from the ground like a shrike.

Small and stout with an OLED screen. I want!

25 / 2 avail June for $1300 (or euro 1300)
85 / 1.8 avail July for $1200 (or euro 1200)

these "look" perfect and given that it's Zeiss through and through, I'm sure we can expect something incredible as far as IQ and rendering.

thankfully, they've moved beyond 35mm and 55mm - and thankfully they both have the same filter size.

interesting OLED display that shows focus distance and depth of field. if it's spot on, could be interesting, otherwise, perhaps a bit gimmicky.

meh, why not stick with the Loxia line and keep them fully manual? The Touit line already flopped more or less.
But is of course great to see more lenses for the FE mount and new designs with very interesting technical data that is

Awesome, I'll remove the question mark from the thread title

An 85mm f/1.8 with AF will do very nicely. Overall this is excellent news for the FE platform, but I wonder what this means for the Sony/Zeiss line and the "fast prime lens" that was promised on the roadmap (that many assumed would be an 85mm...)

They have probably determined that there's a market for both, and I think they could be right.

That was a premium line for APS-C cameras, I think they were just priced too high. This time around I they have aimed at a better market segment (full frame cameras) where there are few AF prime options.

Zeiss will be under cutting the Sony prices by quite a bit (if the 35 1.4 is an example)

This part was well hidden:

Thanks to its optical image stabilization, the ZEISS Batis 1.8/85 can capture outstanding images even under difficult, shifting light conditions.

A compact(ish) native thoroughbred Zeiss 85mm f/1.8 Sonnar with AF and IS for $1199... that will indeed do

This new line makes me confusing...
Sony sony
Sony G
Sony Zeiss
Zeiss loxia
and now Zeiss Batis! with both two series "Zeiss" with AF, last one could/should be made by Cosina.
The Z* 25/2 had 11 elements in ten groups 600g so this one is similar but not identical. The lens should be shorter than the Z* with adapter.

An Zeiss AF 85mm f1.8 with a filter size of 67mm and 475g? Count me in. Not sure about the 25mm, but the 85mm? Oh hell, yeah .

Sonyalpharumours quoting Zeiss (?):

"ZEISS Batis 1.8/85:
The ZEISS Batis 1.8/85 is a moderate tele lens which offers 11 lens elements in eight groups and features the ZEISS Sonnar optical design. The lens elements are made from special types of glass and designed to ensure superior image quality. The ZEISS Batis 1.8/85 is a particularly good choice for wedding photography and portrait shots, offering the high speed which provides plenty of creative scope to bring out the main subject. Thanks to its optical image stabilization, the ZEISS Batis 1.8/85 can capture outstanding images even under difficult, shifting light conditions."

I have not seen any info on this elsewhere.

I wouldn't have believed it if I only saw in on SAR, but it's also in the official press release on the Zeiss website:
