FM forum does it again: the first forum to post some real 400 DO MkII test/review results.
So far, these are the first results of my testing:
(1) CR-80 replacement foot fits on the lens perfectly as I have expected. The OEM foot is mostly useless.
(2) Don Zeck's lid for 300 f/2.8 fits perfectly on the lens too.
(3) The lens front element is deeply recessed within the hood mount flange. Shooting without the hood here and there under "safe" light conditions, if desired, should not be a problem.
(4) IS is practically noiseless......by far the quietest of all lenses which I've shot with.
(5) The case has no TC (or coffee cup) pockets.....thank you Canon.
(6) MF ring is as smooth as silk.....the smoothest of all long lenses I've used.
Well, it's just a start.

You have to admit that for people that like bird butts that 3rd shot is pretty crisp.
Peter, might I suggest a 'controlled' test shot using tripod, lighting, your 1DX and each 400 DO, just to compare contrast, colors, sharpness, etc...even tho such a test is no doubt on your ToDo list
No brick walls, perhaps a set of books or some other still life...with a plethora of color and detail; maybe even a pijun decoy if you have such
Anyway lads, as I said before, this is just a start. I've got a goodly number of shots to analyse now, and then to decide in what direction I need to push next. These kinds of tests take me typically several weeks or even months until I become very comfortable with the assessment of a new lens. Therefore, this is a slowly evolving story line.
I am also sure Bryan Carnathan and Arthur Morris will be publishing their reviews shortly, as they are usually very prompt (and thorough). After their reviews are out, I may post more of my shots as well as findings.
