Hey all, I have a 16-35 F2.8 that I really like, but am curious just how much wider the 14 F2.8 is. The only comparison I can find is at The Digital Picture, and that comparison is useless since an APS-H sensor was used. Does anyone own a 16-35 variant as well as the 14 F2.8, who could post a comparison pair of photos of the same scene? I'd like to know just how much wider 14mm looks. Thanks!
I have both so could shoot something for you, pm me with your email and I can maybe get something to you tomorrow. It is significantly wider, but 90% or more of the time 16mm is wide enough for me. I usually shoot my 14 when I want the quality a bit better because I have the rokinon and it's much better than my 16-35mk2. I thought Canon had a comparison between the focal lengths, but don't know where you would find it, I think it was in their lens book that we used to get back when CPS actually gave out some freebies.

Hey thanks John! I really appreciate that. I am PMing you now. Hopefully the Rokinon is not a bit different FOV than the Canon 14 variant.
I did a comparison of the 16-35L II, 14 Samyang and 17 TSE showing the same building scenes with all lenses, flaring (ghosts), and corrected perspective (PP vs. shift). The upshot is that 16mm is noticeably wider than 17mm, and 14mm is significantly wider than 16mm. For that reason I've kept all three of these, along with the Canon 15 FE, as my UWA set.

I have the Bower 14mm and the 16-35. At least at indoor distances the Bower 14mm is considerably wider. Wide enough that I'm sad to say it's really a wholly different lens and 16mm doesn't replace it. I will test it outdoors, but I expect the results will be similar.

so the 14mm lens will show 31m more of the brick wall. Scale that up to a landscape with mountains say 50km away and you will see 500*31 = 15.5km more scenery. So that 6 deg difference in FoV sure adds up for typical landscape shots
The Samyang 14/2.8 UMC is an incredible bargain. Here's some sample 100% crops from a test I did a few years ago (1DsIII, f/8). The red square in each bottom panel shows the location of the 100% crop in the top panel.

Here you go, my Tokina 11-16 on my 5D3, 14mm vs 16mm, ignore the vignetting, I can use this at 16mm on the 5D3, or I usually put a 1.4x on it, giving me a 15-22 f4 lens.
