For the most part is does from 200-400. Below 200 it is not as good, but really falls off after 500.

That's both good and potentially troubling news.
It's great that Tamron's turnaround time was better-than-reasonable.

It's not so great that Tamron didn't have the sense of customer service to notify you that the lens was received, and more importantly that it was shipped back without a required signature or even a warning. While having a $1000+ product hanging out on an outside porch for a couple of days may be quite acceptable in both of our neighborhoods, I've also lived in communities where this is simply stupid. And preventable.

I look forward to hearing about the performance of the repaired lens.

M

Spoke to Tamron in Commack and they did upgrade the firmware. They said they are having problems between their email servers and Gmail which might be why I didn't get an email.

I got the same story, emails bouncing back. Mine arrived at Tamron on Tuesday and won't ship out until tomorrow. Hope it's here by the weekend.
Glad to hear it seems to perform well and I look forward to your further testing.

I called them today and said i heard there was a fix for the 150-600mm. The lady at tamron said it's not a fix as there was nothing wrong with lens to begin with.

I told her she didn't have to give me the corporate marketing spiel as we both know there is an AF problem.

So we'll see what this fix does, it may make it a better lens than the 100-400, who knows.

Getting a little frustrated.
Any communications I've received regarding my lens repair has had to be initiated by me.
I was told yesterday that my lens was in the shop and would ship by end of the day and i would receive a tracking number by email.
No email. So I called just moments ago and same story. It's in the shop and should ship today or tomorrow at the latest.
I told her that sure doesn't sound like 3 day turnaround to me. My lens was delivered there last Tuesday 6/3/14. I said if you say 3 day turnaround and it's actually a week or more, people will be angry. If you say "about a week" people will probably be thrilled if it's actually less.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the frustration will be worth it.

Well yesterday went by without a shipping email from Tamron. I tried to call just a few minutes before 5 eastern time and got the "we're closed" message.
I sent an email last night voicing my frustrations. Maybe they are backed up with returns, maybe they should admit this lens has a problem with focus.

Here's my update:

1) Shipped Tamron overnight last Thursday.
2) Received confirmation from Tamron Monday morning.
3) FedEx tracking received from Tamron Tuesday. Shipment is 3-day so delivery date is Friday even though tracking says package is in Oakland. Hoping it gets delivered tomorrow instead.

Will put it through its paces this weekend. I'm a poor bird shooter now that I haven't shot birds in years so let that be a disclaimer. :-)

Hope this helps.

Thanks,
Voltaire

Now that sounds like a more customer-service oriented process. Very encouraging. Hope your lens works wonderfully. Let us know.

For once I live close to a service center...yay! Normally they're on the other side of Australia. Today I brought my lens to the shop I bought it from and they knew nothing of the fix. They rang Tamron who said yep, there's an AI Servo firmware fix for Canon. I dropped it off at lunchtime today and it should be ready for collection tomorrow.

Hi guys, UK Tammy owner here. Are there any other UK-based people on this forum who have the AF problem on their Tammy?

Tamron USA have offered to sort mine out but it would cost me $110 (or $190) to ship it to Tamron USA at Commack to get it fixed.

I have been trying to get some service from the UK distrubutor (Intro2020), but no luck so far. Surely UK-based Tammy owners should be able to get their Tammy fixed within the UK!, or at least in Europe!

UK based myself. What have you tried? email? phone? Do they answer the phone? What do they say? I was about to send my lens to them for update. Do you have to get them to agree before you send it? I thought you filled in an online form and sent it off, but maybe they make you phone them to agree first?

Has anyone gotten their Tammy back after the Firmware fix yet? I read the whole thread and several have sent their's in but no one so far has said if the fix works.

I posted in the other thread...co-worker got it back and is happy. I got mine (brand new) today, but have some over-exposing issue I need to diagnose. It is much worse on this lens than the kit. Maybe gunky new contacts or something simple. Maybe I can do a swap test with my co-worker :-)

Sorry this has taken so long, I was finally able to get some sequence shots with the new firmware.
Overall I am happy with the fix, the only time it takes awhile to focus is when I forget to tell it to limit the range to 15 meters. Otherwise it seems pretty quick. I also think it tracks pretty well, similar to my 400mm 5.6. Although I still have to give the prime the edge in IQ.

I loaded an 18 shot sequence on Flickr click on Here at the end of this post.

(hopefully this link works) these shots have no PP just 50% crop, it is a full about 2 1/2 sec burst with the 7D, the full EXIF should be there.

These look pretty darn good. Thanks for posting this.

How long did it take Tamron to update the firmware for you? Did you have to pay to/return postage?

It took Tamron just 3 days to turn the lens around, unfortunately we had an email problem and I didn't get notified that they shipped it back. But all turned out OK. I paid shipping there and they paid it on the return.

It looks like I need to finally send mine in for the update. It was one of the early ones when first released. I've been happy with the image quality, even at 600mm, and the center spot focusing for more static subjects with my 5DIII, but look forward to improvements in focus for moving targets.
Thanks
Steve

If you don't hear from them in a reasonable time after delivery is confirmed I would give them a call, they have email issues, especially with gmail.
