Good point John. Not considered that! Imagine if the Nikon version comes out and it has no issues - get ready for a real turf war!!

I have to wonder whether the D7100 will outperform the 70D in this respect, though I'm fully expecting the D600/D800 to fall behind the 5D III's AF. I've only come across a few tracking comparisons between the crop semi-pro cameras, and while they showed the Canon in a more favorable light with first-party lenses on both bodies, the quirks of third-party lenses may level or tilt the playing field.

Tested the lens on a 1DX today and it worked fine.

Did you try the Zone Auto Focus and Auto Focus with all the Focus Points?

I tried on the 5D3 and only works with the center focus point. Even if you select the other modes - AF works only when the subject hits the center focus point.

JJ, I think it's really interesting that it works on the 6D. Have you made Tamron aware of this? I've just had an email back from Tamron UK stating that they were unaware of the issue and took a contact number for me and sent the email on to Germany (european hq, maybe?).

Yes, have talked to them on two different occasions and they told me they are looking into it and will call me with there findings. Also working on this thru my local dealer. Shot close to 1000 images today using AiServo and my 6D and had vary good results.

Never seem to do well with all focus points, always use single center point on the 6D, and center point expanded on my 7D.

Thanks!. Even the expanded points on my 7d does NOT work. Focus works only when it hits the center point. I reviewed my images and focus only work when it hits the center point.

I know most uses the center points for bird tracking but still most of the canon/sigma/nikon lenses (i tried 400mm 5.6, 70-200mm) work very well under other focusing modes.

Based on the reviews here... we cant really say that focus is working fine on 6D or 70D as it is only the center point focus that works. Still some sort of an update will be required even for these newer cameras.

Just want to clarify what I have experienced with this lens using the AiServo for BIF.
Canon 6D Aiservo Single center point focus works fine
Canon 70D Aiservo Single center point focus works fine
Canon 7D Aiservo does not work Note: The only way I have taken keeper BIF images with this lens is by using Single center point focus or center point expanded and constantly bumping focus.
Canon 1DM4 Servo does not work
Canon 1DX Aiservo works fine.

Hi folks,
After years of lurking this is my first FM post. Since Jan 17th, I have been testing this lens on BIF. Living near L&D 14 on the Mississippi river I have spent many hours shooting Eagles. Please take a look at the my results over the last few weeks. http://jjbird.smugmug.com/Photography/Tamron-150600-Lens/i-GKtJqV8

I really like this lens and find it to as sharp or better than my tried and true Canon 100-400L.
My copy does have a issue when used with my 7D in the Ai-Servo mode, it does not keep focus, as a work around I must keep bumping the focus button

Great BIF shots! I don't have either camera that does track in AI Servo that you mention but have the 7D and 5D mkII. If the 6D and 1D mk4 work then hopefully Tamron can fix the other cameras. Great news!

Do you know if they come up with a lens firmware fix, does this require sending in the lens, or can it be performed at home with a download then then an upload through the camera or maybe at a local Authorized Tamron dealer?

By some miracle, if someone has the Canon 40D and this lens, I would be very interested to hear of their findings regarding the AF issues. I am pleased with the sharpness of the shots I have seen so far. Jim.

I'm hoping a fix is in the works for AI Servo on a 1DIV, so much so that I've put my name on the waiting list at a local shop. Late February is the expected arrival so here's hoping. Thanks again to all those out there shooting and posting.

, I've had the original Rebel (300D), 20D, and 40D. The only one I still have, the 20D, no longer works.

So if you have a Canon 7D would you keep the lens or return it? Mine just came in and not sure I want to keep it or return it. $1,000 is a still a hefty price for a lens.

Since it does not AF properly on either my 7D or 1D4, I have sent mine back.

Maybe if Tamron gets their act together and explains and fixes the problem, I may get another later.

Can't Justify 600mm (with Center Focus Point only) on my 5D3. I can get 560mm on my (400mm F5.6 with 1.4x).

Unless it is working well on the cropped body (7D) - Cant justify this lens.

Mine also going back for an exchange... Top of the list for the next iteration of shipments.

Hopefully, fixed by then.

Glad you got the same results as I did for the 7D & 1D4. I don't have a clue on the intricacies of how the AF on a lens works, but sounds like a communication problem between lens and different bodies.

It should AF properly in AI Servo on all those bodies, regardless of what focus point(s) is used.

An appalling shortcoming IMO by Tamron. Will be interesting if they will tell us what the problem is, why it happened in the first place, and how it will be fixed.

A real shame, as I had no AF problems with the Tamron 90 & 180mm macros.
