p.1 #1 · For 1D owners out there... the Sigma 18-35mm 1.8 works on a 1.3x crop!
There's some slight vignetting at 18-20mm, but overall I'm really, really impressed. It's reaallllyy sharp at f1.8, too. I haven't done much with it yet and it's night outside so there's not much to shoot, so I resorted to a mirror shot: http://www.flickr.com/photos/srontgorrth/9243310893/in/photostream/
I'll try and get some more in and use it on my assignments tomorrow, though.

Threw it on my 5D Mark II and it functions at 35mm which is a nice addition as well. Really unbelievable how good this is so far at the price of only $800... If it were $1500 I would consider it an honestly good deal (in reality that wouldn't be good since it's primarily an APS-C only lens with APS-C users, but it's that good of a lens).

Loving the lens. I was considering both a 24 1.4, 28 1.8 and 35 1.4. This in essence fills all of those gaps, sure at 1.8 and not full frame but from a photojournalists perspective it's a perfect tool.
It also functions on full frame at 35mm 1.8, and it that sense it's like getting two lenses for the price of one.
Here are a couple shots shot on assignment last night with a 1D4:

I've been mostly around f1.8-f2.8 but I plan on opening up the aperture for test stuff some later on. I think I read the maximum is f16 though.
And as for focal length, it's quite usable at 20mm. There is some slight vignetting but it's usable, and at 18mm it's just slightly more, but a little much for my tastes. 20mm is good enough for me though.
I'm a huge fan of both wide/ultrawide shooting, but I'm also a fan of using shallow DOF to isolate subjects and so on, obviously the two don't go particularly hand in hand that well (except for say, 24 1.4/28 1.8), but this lens changes that.
Oh, and additionally, at the wide end the lens hood does add a bit more vignetting, it goes away around 22-24mm, but I have not tested flare or shot outdoors. On full frame at 35mm the hood doesn't cause any issue.

Sigma's on a rollllll!!! This is a dark horse of a lens. Seems to work with FF too atleast @ 35mm. A good and versatile alternative to its more expensive cousin the 35 Art.

I doubt they're worried. I mean, every time I try to find a Sigma lens for some application, I find that it fails in one way or another compared to one or more Canon lenses. I don't mean to dig at Sigma, that's just what I keep running into.

That seemed to be the case the whole time until Sigma began to overhaul their products. I mean, since the 35 1.4 has come down there has been unending talk of it, and for good reason.

Good, looks like I can sell the 16-35 and pocket the difference (for wider shots, I have the 14mm, also Sigma).
Ah, the neverending (and fun) topic of APS-H hacks. Pity that the format is officially defunct, but luckily, the bodies are good for years to come.
