Some shots from the Historic Grand Prix held last weekend at Mosport. A little C&C would be nice to help me improve on car racing pics. Rented the new Nikon 80-400 lens for some of the shots. Nice lens, but I would prefer to rent it.
Try to get some dynamics in the shot… a car transitioning through a turn maybe. In the last two, maybe a different angle or a tighter crop… if you can find an interesting background… crowds in stands wearing different colors during a pan at say 1/60 to 1/30 can work. Backgrounds at some tracks are hard to find.
Driver seem to like shots of their cars with other cars, action shots… don’t forget the paddock…
I posted a few for examples... Stayed with the historic theme...
Peter, nice shots. That Porsche 911 slant nose looks like a toy.
Include EXIF data with your shots and people may be able to provide more suggestions regarding technique. I think for motorsports, getting an interesting or unusual vantage point can be as important as proper technique. Even with Watkins Glen practically in my back yard I still haven't mastered motorsports.
