This is from a day trip to Santa Cruz. There was a persistent marine layer present, but there weren't any other clouds. Instead the clouds rolled in after dark in order to scupper my plans to shoot stars. C&C welcome!

Even a well travelled beach washes away your footprints
Ah yes. The spring-summer weather patterns in Santa Cruz can be cruel to photographers. Still you've managed to capture a good shot! I like the color and detail in the rocks.
Consider yourself lucky. I spent almost a week in the Big Sur / Monterrey area and I dont think I got one decent sunset or glow in the afternoon. The marine layer has been very very persistent for weeks. Only areas of the coast that were well east of the point were getting some sun. That meant that the whole garrapata park area was getting none most of the time.
Sneakyracer: That's too bad about your time at Big Sur. It's always disappointing to make a trip for photography, and have persistently rude weather.

I actually got a few very nice moody shots. The Cali coast is amazing. I drove past Santa Cruz on the way to San Fran but didnt have time to stop. next time!
