I spoke to some people in the trade today, and based on what I was told, I see the Canadian 200-400L supply picture as follows (just guessing):

* Current backlog on record across Canada: 25-30 lenses.
* Canon Canada lens allocation: 4-5 lenses/month.
* Anticipated backlog clearing date: Y/E 2013.

Again, please do not use this info as a fact or as a rumour.....it is neither, it is my guesswork only.

It wouldn't surprise me if the USA lens demand and allocation is at least ten times higher.

I actually paid about this for my 2009 Mustang last year. I think I'll get a fair amount more use out of that than a 200-400 lens. Probably wont have the resale value that Canon lenses have though. I actually just rebought a 100-400 and I'm enjoying the flexibility and light weight for summer baseball games.
