Saw the gallery. Outrageously good photos. Great model. Totally splendid. Please tell how you used the ABR. On camera sometimes, off camera sometimes? Moon Unit? Diffuser and Dish? I am a total ABR fanboy. Use it for everything. These are so good, you have to share technique. Thanks!
Oh! Portland. I'm just down I5. And that's 4449 Isn't it. Storms through town every once in awhile. Can feel it coming. Wow. I was leaning out second story commercial building window 15 feet from track when it stormed by leaning on the whistle. Just makes one stop breathing for a bit.
@ Ravtej - I used the 30" moon unit, placed camera left. At the time, this was the only decent light I had. When I bought the ABR, my intention was to use it as a ringlight only, but after using it a bit, I found it worked great off camera as main or fill with the moon unit.
Thanks Cam. The 30" moon unit is fantastic. I also have the bigger one, but the light is not as good. The ABR Moon Unit works very well off camera as well. These photos are fantastic examples of what can be accomplished. All those valves, pipes and levers. And what the light does for the model. I think that ABR/Moon might have been the best possible light to put all that dimension on the inside cab shots. Very 3D. This may be some of the best lighting I have ever seen in an environment like that. Personally I am thinking about locations that might be similar. I did some impromptu shooting at the EWEB old steam plant. Reminds one of the steam plant used at OMSI, except it's original. Might have to show this stuff and get back in there with the ABR and a model. Would you also share camera/lens. Great lessons here on how to get something spectacular.
How much of the color was post? And what was used for processing? Plug-ins? I keep coming back, these are soooo cool.
