I would love c&c on this shot... I plan to do a limited edition of 7 on this and want to hear from some experienced shooters that print often.... do you think this shot is processed well enough? If no, what would you change? I know it shows up as huge.... but I wanted those commenting to be able to see the details....
There is a misty, flat quality to the light.
I think it will make a fine print.
That being said, it's not always easy to tell how a print will look compared to what you see on a computer screen.
You should do a test print first on the paper you plan to use to see how it looks.
You can then adjust your processing if necessary before you commit to full size prints.
Wow, what a great shot. Take my c&c for what it's worth...which isn't a whole lot. I opened the photo in a separate window so I wouldn't have to scroll. I would look into the following changes to see what I thought:
The photo, while very dramatic, doesn't balance well as I look at it. I want the building to be more of a landing point for my eyes, but it's dwarfed by the scale of its surroundings. Lotta empty space at the top of the shot. Lotta cliff and trees below. I would look at something like a 8x12 crop or even a square crop and see how it looked. It might balance better.
There is a lot of structure and contrast lurking in this shot. It seems quite flat to me. I see ridgelines in the distant background, but they are faint...a tease. It makes me want to see more of that depth.
I want to see more structure and contrast in the building to draw me to it.
The cliffs and trees...the tones seem to be kinda "mushed" together, without a lot of definition which would add drama and interest.
Just my $.02. Nice photo.
Thanks Geoff and Phil for your input... I have since re-worked the image with the assistance of the Photo Critique forum folks.... Here is the latest edit, of which I have a 24x36 paper copy for sample on the way to ensure it will print as I intend.....
Hmm...guess I'm just not feelin' it on this one. The crop doesn't work for me. The contrast is very soft. Lots of midtones here, and very few true blacks. There is a ton of contrast available here that would really make this shot pop, but it isn't being brought out. But hey, different strokes...see how the prints look. You may love them, or see a need to tweak things. Good luck
Lee,
you have a very nice image here and should make a nice print.
Did a little tweeking on your image and I hope you don't mind. If so please delete it or I can. I don't normally play with others images but I just wanted to bring out more of what I felt was it potential.
The "hill" in the background is actually Beacon Rock on the Washington side of the river and also a great place to shoot from and walk. And, yes, it does provide nice counterpoint to the Vista House
