Maybe a bit silly but I've been shooting long glass and have not used a polarizer in quite a while.
First of all, will be shooting on a full frame body so do I need a 'slim' or will a regular CPL work on this 24-105mm?
Next, the choices are overwhelming on brands and I know some are very expensive. I don't want a cheap one but I don't want to spend more than what I need to either. Sure I know B&W, Heliopan to be excellent quality but what about Hoya, Tiffen, Marumi etc.............?
If you don't mind taking a moment, let me know slim or regular then your 'best value pick' circular polarizer for this lens.
Thanks for your suggestions and help..........I need one ASAP
A medium thickness polarizer is fine on that lens. I use B+W for everything. If you will also use that filter on a wider lens then get the B+W slim Kaesemann with the nono-coating and front threads. In general I prefer the medium polaizers are they are easier to handle.
I'm with EB-1, having tried the Hoya HMC and the B+W Kaesemann nano side-by-side. They both get the job done, but the former seems to be a magnet for grease, and is difficult to clean. Regular (not slim) is a little easier to work with and less expensive, but will start to vignette at ~17-18 range.
I use the Marumi DHG Super Circular Polarizer CPL PL.D,and it works very well on my 24-105. It's a lot cheaper than B+W, and it got great reviews from Lenstip.com in their polarizer tests.
You can also look at Heliopan and Singh Ray. B + W, Heliopan and Singh Ray are the best brands around when it comes to screw in type filters. They use the best glass and multicoating. The reason for the front threads is if you want to stack filters such as ND filters or split ND filters, on top of your polarizer, such as Lee... Hope this helps.....
I have Hoya (B+W went missing...) both are good an edge to the B+W but if you are not pixel peeping then you can't really tell the difference. Although I did find the B+W one hard to clean when stuff got on it compared to the Hoya that kind of annoyed me but otherwise the build of the B+W was great! Regular size works just fine for the 24-105.
24-105 has been my workhorse sort-of-wide-angle (well, widest, anyway) for a long time, and I've had good results from B+W products; no vignetting at all on FF with a regular thickness filter. Lately I've been using Singh-Ray's "warming" polarizer, which does impart a slightly warmer tone to the scene; if it doesn't need that, it's easy to adjust the RAW file in Lightroom...I recall the B+W being slightly less expensive, but you won't go wrong with either...

+1. Got one for my 24-70 f/2.8L II. That 82 mm filter thread is expensive so I got the Marumi instead for the B+W.
I use the Heliopan ES 77 SH-PMC with the 24-105 and other lenses that take the 77mm filter. It is excellent as a polarizer, but of equal importance is that it is very well built. It is made of brass which helps prevent it from sticking by mounting and dismounting, and since the rotating adjustment ring moves smoothly and freely, you don't have to mount the filter so tight.
I have found that lesser CirPols result in a "dirty" image akin to noise, something that can't be corrected in post.
I use the B+W MRC KSM CP filter for 72mm and 77mm threaded lenses. I recently picked up a Zeiss T* C-Pol filtyer for my 82mm threaded lenses. It seems pretty nice.
P.S. IMO, the main value of having front threads on a filter is to put a 'normal' lens cap on it. The push on caps that are used on filters without front threads are prone to falling off.
Thanks everyone for the reinforcements on quality filters.
Just ordered off Amazon a B&W Kasesmann CPL MRC 77mm for $119, I had a few gift cards that helped too
B&W states the FPro mount is thinner than mount on 2001 and older models so I think this will be fine on my 24-105 for sure, will see where it vignettes on a wider angle lens.
At least now I will have one of the best in quality to evaluate, I appreciate all the input.............thanks again!

That's an excellent bargain and much less then normally priced.
I have a few of the B+W F-Pro in the 77mm size, and they indeed can be used on most modern 24mm lenses without vignetting.
Picked up both the CP and ND Marumi DHG Super 77mm for my 17-40L, have done minor tests with these and my Hoya Pro's...Marumi filters seem better and their cost is quite reasonable

That sounds encouraging! Nice to get quality results in the 'savings mode'

Yes I found the price hard to pass up, hopefull I will get what I paid for
At least I'll have a benchmark from one of the top rated filters to use as a reference for possible other bargains
