Occupational hazard of looking at FM infrequently: working backwards through great posts like this one.
I don't think I've ever seen coot chicks, but I'm with Birdie...ugly and cute all at the same time. (Not quite as cute as a PBG chick, though!)

We have coots at our local refuge- but I've never seen a baby one.
And what a surprise bit of information: I didn't know any of the vegetarian duck-like birds actually fed their chicks. Thanks for the new info.
