p.1 #1 · I won't be giving up my 1Ds2 or 1D3 anytime soon

Yesterday I attended an event that included a fly over by a large airplane. I brought three cameras with me, my 6D with a 100-400L IS, a 1Ds2 with a 24-105L IS and a 1D3 with an original 70-200L f2.8 IS.

I handed the 1Ds2 to my gal, and I alternated between the 6D and the 1D3.

One thing I noticed, the 1D series are no slouches, in fact, they kept up better with the action than the 6D.

Unfortunately, the 6D is a little shy of being able to keep up with either 1D camera. When I wanted it to take a shot, it was not as responsive as either the 1Ds2 or the 1D3.

Don't get me wrong, the 6D did a wonderful job overall.

But now I remember why I wanted a 1Dx. The 1D-series makes the shot, when you want it. At some point in time in the near or distant future, a 1Dx will be mine!

Maybe your girlfriend makes the shot, when she wants it?

Or maybe she just calls the shots.

If you've got the light the 1DsII remains one of the finest image making devices around, and the 1DIII also in good light really is right up there. You could do a lot worse. Only reason I moved on is for higher ISO plus some interface benefits.

Robert

I'm not going to get into girlfriends and shooting. Serious trouble there!

Not sure why this is news. 6D is basically a FF 60D, and of course it's not as responsive as a 1 series; heck even the 5D III not as responsive and it's pretty good.

Cliff,

And where did that beautiful 1DMk2 go that I sold to you a couple of years ago?

Just drive to Parksville and I will give you a beautiful deal on a 500 f4 II. No tax.

I still have that 1D2 you sold me Tony. It still has less than 10,000 clicks on it, but I do use it. I left it in my truck as a backup though if I was thinking straight, I would have set it up, thrown a lens on it and given it to one of many spectators to take some shots for me from a different location.

As for that lens, it's something I can only drool over at this time.

It's also about the lens... The 100-400 is not quite as responsive as either 24-105 or 70-200 F/2.8. I'm using mine on a 5D III, and it can take a while to lock focus. Switching the focus limiter to longer MFD helps a lot, though Still, a perceptible difference between 100-400 and faster lenses on the same body.

Well, this is no way to start my day. The clock is already ticking VERY slowly. The 1D3 that I bought from dschagun should be sitting at my house this afternoon. I'm going to shoot my towns high school baseball team (at a great venue) this evening. The clock slowed down a little more.

I liked the 1DsII lots but I'm really happy with 1dMKIII and a 1DsMKIII love them both for different reasons!
