I like the fact that this is not centered and that there are no details in the shadows. Let them go black. Don't crop it either because the black of the lower frame balances the lighter tones higher in the frame.
I also think that solid black areas do not add to the composition. I'd crop most of the black out. For it to be a "Montana Morning" I'd like to see a little more Montana!
Thanks very much for your most welcome and kind comments and editing suggestion. It was a good time to be there in that Montana remote mountain area after the previous night's rain.
I really want to like this, but I have a nit to pick:
The foreground ended up in Zone I and I think bumping this area up to II or dark III (if your capture actually recorded any information in this area) would be interesting. In the mid-ground, behind the tree, you can see what appears to be the base of a mountain/hill, but everything beyond it is obscured by the clouds (nothing you can control), and there is nowhere for the eye to go (except perhaps return to a foreground with a little detail to draw it back in).
