The Power of Photography
As I watch hours of footage of Moore, Oklahoma, and the talking heads drone on for hours with a backdrop of frantic people digging through piles of what was their life, what is the one item that every person interviewed is looking for? Photos. That 8x10 inch time machine that takes them back to a split second of life. A view of life long passed, but still important. An anchor, a springboard, a basic tie to who we were and are.
Photos are everywhere. Posted on Facebook, sent by e-mail, down loaded and discarded. It’s not until they are gone that their importance is felt.
As photographers we must understand the role that photography plays and present it to our customers in such a way that they understand what they are holding is important not only to them, but to future generations.
Photographs show the past, but affect the future.
