Decided I want a small but good ballhead to try on a monopod. Anyone can suggest a good ballhead for this? I am looking at the photo clam, Feisol but no idea if they are any good and the Sirui head. Don't want to spend a lot of money on the head
Why do you want a ball head for a monopod? I use the RRS MH-01 monopod tilt head for most lenses, and the small Manfrotto 3232 tilt head on a small monopod for travel.
I used a Manfrotto 222 Joystick "ball" head for a few years, but never really liked it.
I think a mononpod head for your monopod will be better.
You like a small ballhead, maybe sunwayfoto FB-28 can meet your need. The ball diameter is 28MM. just for your reference

For panning and static horizontal I just use an Arca clamp on my monopod. However, if you use it for shooting in churches and museums where tripods are banned, a small ball head is great, especially for shooting straight up at ceiling frescos.
I use a Manfrotto 322RC2 Trigger ballhead on my Neotec monopod for my 120-300mm non-OS and this combo works quite the charm for my needs! I just posted about this combo the other day on this board, here's that commentary in all its shamelessly gushing glory...
I'll never understand a ball head or a grip head on a monopod. In a pinch, maybe, but as a full-time solution I think that is an awkward adaptation.
The inexpensive option is the Manfrotto works fine. If you're switching between L-bracket and lenses with feet, I'd put the Sunwayfoto DDH-02 discal clamp on top so the orientation change between bracket and feet can be done without wrenches.
I have Sunwayfoto's DT-01 monopod head, and it think it is substantially better-made than the Sirui.
I actually have 2 monopod heads because I have 2 monopods: one HD aluminum one for use with my 500. I use a RRS MH-01 on that one. I also have a CF one which has a Kirk MPA-2 which I use with my lighter lenses. Before I bought the Kirk, I checked out the Sirui, and it was okay but I didn't like the way the clamp was oriented, and the dealer, despite some real force, couldn't loosen the screw from the clamp into the head to switch it.
Both the Kirk and the RRS are really well built, albeit a little pricey, and probably more than you want to spend...
I've tried to use a ballhead with my monopod and it was so frustrating that I just gave up. As with other responders, forget about the ballhead idea and go with either the RRS MH-01 or MH-02 monpod heads or the Acratech Long Lens head.
