These are pretty desperate low light shots. The light was low and the bear was moving. But you have to work with what opportunities nature provides.
He looks pretty healthy (skinny but not too skinny) after a long winter. He was looking for food (grass) alone the highway as we drove in from Calgary to Jasper on Friday night.
It looks like a great summer on its way.

Great looking especially for being at 10,000...although that second shot he's looking like he might be interested in having a bit of photographer to help fatten him up.
Excellent photography and post work Scott. 2 stole my eye and then I looked at the exif, wow, that is some fancy shooting and post work. Top notch low light shooting all around
David Leask: He is a healthy big boy bear. The winter did not seem to be too tough on him. Glad you like him. Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. Scott
birdied: I took the pictures in very dark light expecting them to come out badly. Fortunately the dim light (past sunset) was behind me. Its amazing what the 5diii can do. Glad you like them. Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. Scott
jdc562: He was a beautiful bear - he looks particularly healthy. Gad you like the pictures. Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. Scott
CDaescher: The 1st one does not have the eye contact but the pose really appeals to me as well. Glad you like it. Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. Scott
ScottHM: He kept moved toward me until he was too close on the 600 but he was not interested in me and I was a long way off. Its hard to believe that that grass was better than me. Glad you like them. Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. Scott
Tim Kuhn: I think Canon (5diii) gets the credit - not me. My best move was keeping the dim post sunset behind me and watching the histogram and going high on the iso to keep the shutter speed from motion blur. Glad you like the bear. Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. Scott
canadajim: He was a really healthy bear. Great to see such a great looking bear after a long winter. Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. Scott
surfnron: After a long winter without bears, I was happy to see him, even in challenging light. Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. Scott
kmunroe: Glad you like my low light bear shots. Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. Scott

Lil Judd: I like the lines in 1 as well. The big hump and the looking for food is a great grizzly pose. Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. Scott
JimLittle: The lack of food through the winter makes the hump really show up. And the claws were pretty cool too. Glady you like them. Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. Scott
